Hello Dakka.

For the past 3 months I have been running the 13th round of The League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Contest. This round's theme has been "Accidents" because, it's the 13th round and ... well ... stuff happens, more often than not through sheer incompetence rather than anything deliberate.

This competition has stretched the imaginations of those who have taken part to produce some truly weird, wonderful and wacky terrain pieces that, as I am sure you will all agree, are pleasures to behold. Making terrain is not easy, requiring great amounts of skill, effort and planning, simply finishing a terrain piece can be an achievement in itself.

Here are the entrants:

I ask you all to pick just one of the above fantastic entries as your favourite.

Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen.

Gotta say, it was really tough, but I voted for Dr H due to the overall concept, detail and execution. However if I'd had more than one vote I would have had to have gone for:
- ChrisWhite
- Tek Thorin
- Camkierhi
- Monkeytroll

That said, all final pieces deserve credit for producing better than I could! Well done everyone

Much easier to have People's Choice as a Poll rather than juggling a billionty private messages :-)

If I could have more than one vote, I would go with Camkierhi, Dr H and EyamRai. Really love what everyone has done but those three stood out to me (for various reasons). :-)

Amazed number of overall votes so low. I expected far more.

Also, any idea when the next contest will open? I have a plan for a diorama and wondered if it would fit the upcoming theme.

35 votes is low when the thread has been up for two days?

I don't know of other people's dakka browsing habits, but I click on a bookmarked link to threads I follow and check for new replies on those... and that is it. So I only found this because I was reading every reply on the competition thread...

Fair point, but Paradigm's painting contest has over a hundred votes and there were only 30odd of us who entered.

Just surprised terrain not getting as much attention, when it enhances the models.

Well, mostly we have to ask legoburner for that...or we need to make the thread as a p&m blog then it gets featured on the main page eventually on its own by updating...but I dunno if it will be allowed to put it in that section as it features input of many hobby friends and nit one...hmmm

So where is it listed now? I came across all of this by looking at OMNs page after seeing his WIP in the painting contest. It would be good to have more participants/comments/variety of voters to validate results and help participants to gain more feedback. I do this a lot in work - improve by greater input and participation. Sorry for that - *must turn off work brain*

Its currently in the p&m section, not to be confused with the p&m blog section...no pun here...

And since I am one of the oldest long time(read everytime) participant, I suggest you follow the breadcrumb path from each competition thread to the next. When noodles declares the next winner, that fella then announces the next thread in the old thread...and ever so on...publicity usually gets some free advertising in each of the leagues members own threads and peeps thread that find the comps entertaining...

Just keep posting in this topic and post links in your respective blogs, as I am just about to do in my own.

"There are 10,525 online users: 560 registered, 9,965 guest(s)" according to the stats at the bottom of the forum page ... just have to hope some of them click here.

You mean refine the accuracy of the result by increasing the sample size, not validate.

I love Dr. H's, but a really close second for me was Chris White's. I loved that one, it's so simple, but looks awesome man, it's great

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

"560 registered, 9,965 guest(s)"

Listing "Guest" is an utterly useless feature, as it more often than not includes any Search Engines, people that are in the process of logging in, and each click of someone not logged in counting as an entirely new visitor (especially if they have disabled tracking cookies or are using a VPN).

...but, that is all irrelevant. If more participation and votes is wanted, then unless the competition is Featured it must be spammed in each person's plog. :-P

Not where I should be

Well what an amazing line up again, finally got chance to sit down here and say something.

GawdamSumbish got my vote, there are some truly spectacular models here on display, but something bothers me, and it is my fault.

This is supposed to be a Terrain competition, and although all could be used as terrain I guess, mine is most definately more a dio than usable terrain. GawdamSumbish has produced a brilliant piece that could easily be used on just about any battlefield. Me and my ever bigger dio's have led us away from that purity I think.

Do not get me wrong here Dr'H you have produced a truly spectacular model, with amazing detail and outstanding paintwork, It is the best model here, with Monkeytrolls amazing piece close behind, I looked at that and thought if I did not know better that is something you see on display in magazines, just amazing.

But many of the other pieces are better for being less,

As to people voting here, we never get the coverage we deserve. Your models are spectacular, and I cannot understand how they are not plastered across the front of the gallery, or the main page at least once. I dont know about you guys, but I have posted 2500 images on dakka and only 8 have more than 5 votes, I see at the moment the headliner on the gallery for comments is a brilliant scetch of my little pony! Is is great and funny, But the work people have done here, should be there also, uping our profile.

Also what happens if everyone exalts the OP here, does that get it to front page?

I will go shut up now sorry, rant over, nothing to say for days then I rant at you sorry.

trollmeat I know I just copy pasta. Also if you delete your cookies you know you can vote again right?

Thing is I don't look at the front page... I have the forum page bookmarked and that's it. Just for ease of use to access what I'm interested in, mainly the only sections of the forum I click on is news, p&m and the p&m blogs sections. Hell I've only just started using the " Email me when this thread changes" feature.

Either way I've put a request up in the nuts & bolts section.

Feel free to exhalt as many of my posts as you like

Thanks to all of you who made mention in your plogs

Cam:

I added the option for this round that terrain could be more ... like a diorama in the hopes that it might inspire people to make some terrain that was more ... dynamic (oh god., dynamic terrain, that's like "forging the narrative"). What I mean is to give a sense that there is more happening on the tabletop than just the players moving their pieces...

Edit: hit "submit" by accident ... continuing...

... as well as something interesting to look at. Cam you've won a good few of the past contests now because of your dios . That said I do agree with you maybe the next one could be simpler, whoever hosts that one

A number of people did start making huge pieces thanks to a typo that I missed at the start, and whilst it is fun to think big, it's not always achievable to make a big terrain piece, so sorry for distracting you all with that

All of you have done fantastic work (he says for the 20th time), don't forget you can view most of the pieces in the dakka gallery. Also if you have them there make sure you tag them up so they can be found by casual future browsers.
