In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

Hello everyone, I've decided to move my Chaos stuff over here so the Death Ravens thread doesn't get swamped with heretical updates (not the first time this year, hah).

Now I'm not really into Chaos that much, their chronic backstabbing disorder being a bit of a turn-off for me, but I do love a lot of their models. There's just so much you can do with them in terms of characterisation, I feel.

My main problem with them was the idea of painting another mono-scheme army. Not that I don't like painting my loyalist Death Ravens or the ever-crazy Orks, but it just gets a bit samey after a while. Chaos has a great number of awesome colour schemes available, and I wouldn't want those schemes to go to waste... Problem is, most warbands tend to wear the same scheme, much like their loyalist brethren, because it's practical and all that jazz.

But I said: Feth that, I'll make my own warband! With Blackjack! And hookers!

Replace 'blackjack' and 'hookers' with 'different colour schemes', and you pretty much get The Survivors (or The Remnants, that sounds cool too), a warband consisting of members from every possible warband who were exiled, left behind, or just unlucky enough to be the lone survivor of their last engagement.

Why? I hear you ask. FOR THE GLORY OF CHAOS, OFCOURSE!

Enough rambling, time for some pictures!

The first unit of the warband is a 5-man Terminator squad, each being a follower of one of the four gods (and one undivided one).

They're led by a Tzeentchian, a cold and calculating man who was once part of the Prodigal Sons. He's the most 'sane' and intelligent member of the squad, which means he generally has to babysit the less sane members, lest they decide to murder everyone and everything when they're not supposed to.

The other relatively sane member of the squad is the Nurglite Heavy Weapons guy. He's the Tzeentchian's right-hand man, humorously enough. Calm, relaxed and a bit of a joker. What more could you want in a Nurglite?

At the bottom of the sanity-pit, we have the Khornate. In short, he's insane. He's ill-tempered, incoherently screaming most of the time he's awake, living off of a strict diet of KILL, MAIM AND BURN! He's so foul-tempered the warband sedates him into a coma in between deployments. He lost one of his arms in combat, but Khorne appreciated his work with the lightning claws so much, he gave him a mutated arm which works exactly the same way as his lightning claw did.
TL;DR: If you want something dead, and don't mind anything with a pulse dying along the way, he's your guy.

Now some clever gits might have noticed I skipped two steps in the sanity ladder; where's our 'bordering on the edge insane' and our 'insane, but not as much as the Khornate'? Well, they've already been painted (to some degree):

One of these guys will tear your eyes out, the other one might eat them. Choose wisely.

The Slaaneshi, although slightly less mad than the Khornate, is still a rather messed up individual. He used to be part of the Flawless Host, before his unit was hacked apart by some sneaky Eldar. Preferring the use of flamers, he gleefully roasts anyone stupid enough to cross him on the battlefield. He collects the burned skin (and other parts, but let's not get into that) and offers it up to Slaanesh every now and then. He uses his tentacle arm to grab unfortunate victims and burns them alive while looking them dead in the eyes.
Fun guy, that Slaaneshi.

Lastly, our borderline-insane heretic, the Word Bearer.

Smug, arrogant, slightly mad. He was a late inductee into the Word Bearers, from which he was exiled for unknown reasons. Might have to do with that sword arm he keeps poking people with.

I more or less finished him, here's another batch of pics of the scary bastard:

"So why'd you do it?" "Do what?" The Nurglite shuffled backwards a bit. "You know what I mean." "Why I turned?" The Word Bearer mused, his eyes peering into the distance. His smug grin seemed to disappear a bit, a hint of regret shining through his eyes. "For the Truth. The Truth is all that mattered."

So there, that's two Terminators semi-finished. The Nurglite's up next, although I'm having some trouble deciding on a scheme.

That's all I have for now, thanks for stopping by!

Haha, thanks Matthew

I've been going through the Lexicanum again, looking for some more colour schemes. I'm thinking of painting my Nurglite Heavy Weapons guy in the colours of the Apocalypse Company, check it out: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Apocalypse_Company

Black with green flames = win. The green will help identify this guy as a Nurglite (or, a guy with leanings to Nurgle anyway), I think.

As for the other members, the Tzeentchian will probably just get the standard Tzeentch colour scheme of blue and gold, while the Khornate might get the colour scheme of the Wrath warband: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Wrath

Any comments or suggestions are always welcome; any more info on obscure warbands would also be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! I've been working on my posing skills, trying to wrench a bit more character out of those lovely plastic kits

The Word Bearer really turned out better than I had expected, I hope I can keep the same level of quality up throughout the squad

I prefer The Purge when it comes to Nurgle, at least they want to destroy Chaos by eliminating the source...

... The source being all the living beings of the Galaxy, thought luck, they're gonna have a lot of work, but they would have made good buddies with oldcrons

I will be watching this closely, you know, to keep you from falling out of the true path.

Thought about adding a Son of Malice somewhere? they have a pretty nice black and white quartered scheme that looks pretty good, and would represent the fifth god of Chaos.

Dang Ez! They look fabulous! Well fabulous in their disturbing chaosy way that is I really like the red on the Word Bearer btw! Is that Khorne red that you're using?

I approve of that Apocalypse Company scheme And are you gonna sculpt some hideous rotting things on the Nurglite or are you leaving him as is?

I like The Purge too, it's just that I've already tried painting their colour scheme in the past, on a Chaos Marine:

They're also a bit depressed it seems, with the whole 'murder the entire galaxy' thing, which doesn't really fit with my image of the Nurglite's character

As for the Sons of Malice, I'd totally forgotten about him! Malice, that mischievous devil, always ruining everyone's plans. They seem like a close-knit group though, so I'm not sure how one of them could end up in the Survivors' crew... then again, stranger things have happened in WH40k

And don't worry about me straying from the true path, the Word Bearer's got that covered...

Thanks Levi! I actually used Screamer Pink for the Word Bearer, one wash of Nuln Oil and it turns into a deliciously heretical red

I went ahead and tried to freehand some of those flames, I think the green works well with the black:

The Nurglite's not getting any mutations by the way, he hasn't been fully swayed to the service of Nurgle yet, although he has heavy leanings towards him.
As said, he's one of the more sane members of the squad, and he doesn't really like all those rampant mutations

I don't know much about Nurglites but I've read somewhere that they are the more jolly guys. Despite their ugly rotting bodies at least the know to have a laugh That's what I like about them. Not the usual "DESTROY THE GALAXY WAH WAH!!!!"

The flames are looking good! They nicely contrast the black.

So far, so awesome! Keep on building up, because you know you never just settle for one squad.
I know it's not in the rules, but how about an Iron Warriors terminator with a thunderhammer? You could have him as a disgraced warsmith who accidentally fused a fellow warsmith into a helbrute. Or something. Anyways, they're all looking mighty fine so far, in particular that flawless host guy, and I think the overall concept is a winner!

Do you know what your sin is, Malcolm Reynolds?
Ah hell, I'm a fan of all seven.
But right now, I'm gonna have to go with wrath.

Thanks guys!

I've put some more paint on the Nurglite, he's coming along nicely:

The green's working exactly the way I wanted, although it's getting a bit overpowering now I think; what do you guys think?
The flames are a bit rough in some places, I'm going to touch them up a bit later; here's a pic of him and his (painted) buddies:

I'm already getting tempted to go buy some more Chaos Space Marines and/or Terminators, damn you guys for putting these ideas in my head! Which reminds me, I still have two Hellbrutes I could finish...

If I end up buying another Terminator squad, I can assure you that an Iron Warrior and a Son of Malice will be in it! (I can even salvage a Thunder Hammer from an Assault Terminator squad I have lying around!)

I'm still looking for a good way to base these guys, I found this here on Dakka Dakka: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/613463.page#7171718
It'd be a great base for the Slaaneshi, as it ties in with his flamer-happy behaviour

Now, only the Khornate and the Tzeentchian remain... which would you guys like to see first?

I'm not sure yet, I'm saving up some cash for another raid at the FLGS, my wish-list has been filling up a bit the past few weeks

I'm thinking of buying another Chaos Terminator squad, and some Chaos Marines perhaps. I'm not too sure yet of the Chaos Marines, as I'd like to spice them up a bit more by adding Khorne Berzerker bits, but then I'd also need a Khorne Berzerker squad...

Other than that, I still have two Dark Vengeance Hellbrutes in my possession, and now that I've finally gotten my hands on some plasticard, I might try to scratchbuild a Defiler

Hello again everyone, I got a quick little update for you

Due to popular demand, I started work on the Khornate, here's a few WiP pics:

The head's gonna have some more work done to it, like the wires on his head (which are a great stand-in for the Butcher's Nails by the way).

He currently sports the 'Wrath' colour scheme, although I'm getting drawn to the regular World Eaters colour scheme; the black torso just makes him look a bit unfinished, in my opinion
I also need to get those gory bits on his base some paint, and splash some delicious blood on that pretty armour of his (Khornate's gonna Khornate, ya know?)

Not sure when I'm going to be able to finish this guy, real life is slamming my free time again and it doesn't look like it's going to get better anytime soon. On the bright side, it means these guys aren't finished yet, so that means I'll get to make more updates without also having to empty my wallet (for now, anyway)

Okay, that last part was a lie, I bought some bits lots off ebay a couple of days ago, which should contain some Chaos dudes to experiment on

That's all I have for now, comments or suggestions are always welcome, and thanks for stopping by

In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

Hello again everyone, I got another update for you; seems like the Remnants found some more potential recruits....

I got two bitz bags from eBay in the mail today, both containing all sorts of Chaos bitz and pieces; let's have a look, shall we?

The full lot:

Now there's a bunch of unfinished stuff in here, some of 'em painted to...questionable standards (then again, they're pretty much on the same level of my old Ultramarine army, so I don't really have the right to complain ), but they seem to be intact for the most part.

For example, these 6 regular CSM:

Or these Raptors and a Terminator (by the Emperor, that jetpack; someone took the Night Lords' bat theme a bit too literally)

Here's another Raptor, and a Plague marine with a special weapon:

And some of my favourite models of the bunch, the old-school Khorne Berzerkers (and one old Terminator):

Here's two other marines, still on their sprue:

And then there's this guy, who's already earned a special place in my heart: a Plague marine sergeant

Bits-wise, the package wasn't too bad either; I got some vehicle spikes, some standards, various weapons (not too many sadly), etc.

Now I've got a bunch of Chaos Space Marines, but how am I ever going to build them all when I've only got 9 backpacks (2 of which are jetpacks)?

The marines are better off head-wise, seems like each of 'em will be able to get his own helmet (although some of them seem rather silly, even for a Chaos Marine - I think the Slaaneshi might disagree)

So yeah, I only have a couple of backpacks to equip these guys with, which is a shame, really
Weapons- and pauldrons-wise, I hope I can salvage enough guns from my Tac and Sternguard squad, and I might try to sculpt some custom pauldrons to replace missing bits; I'm sure I can think of a fluffy reason for their new equipment (I sense more fluff coming in the future)

That's all I have for you now, if anyone has an idea on how to fix the backpack- and shoulderpad issue, please let me know!
