I ordered the Cygnar all in one box the other day, and I've seen some chatter around that Silver Line Stormguard are better than the normal ones. How true is this? Also, I assume PP webstore is the only place I can get the upgrade kit from? It's a pain to ship to the UK (well, more expensive than a pain really...)

I cannot comment on the availability of the silverline kit outside the PP store but I think discount games inc sells it with a markup. it still might be worth getting there as they reduce shipping for orders of $50 or more.
Silverline are not a direct upgrade of normal stormguard. They are a unit with the same stats and weapons but very different special rules. Standard stormguard have electro-leap and a damaging gun on the leader. This can be huge for clearing infantry or scalpeling out support near a hard target. Silverline trade electro-leap for crit knockdown and gain the inability to be charged if they are base-to-base. Their leader also trades the damage of his gun for a damage buff to other electrical attacks that follow up the unit.
Most people see the damage buff gun and charge denial as stronger than electro-leap since that has become more common in the faction. One of the biggest frustrations of using melee units with electro-leap is having the lightning jump back to comrades.

If you really want the Electro Leap in Cygnar then Blazers are where it is at. Silverline are just all around better as a melee unit for the charge denial.

As an IFP user, crit knockdown can be hilarious and invaluable on free strikes

While Silverline Stormguard are superior to normal Stormguard, they still have the fatal problem of being quite easy to kill at range. And even non-charge attacks find them easy to kill. They share the terrible defensive stats of all Stormknight units.
Basically they MUST have Arcane Shield or they'll just get picked apart at range.

Thanks guys. So they're more different than better? Bit annoying that that's the only place I can get them. I did check DGI but they're not on there.

The SIlverline are vastly better than the regular Stormguard. Stormguard are only SPD5 which means that your opponent will almost always charge you before you can charge them. Because you will most likely be charged first, an arcane shield won't be enough. Even if they are a charging you with a P+S 10 weapon, average dice and even slightly below average dice will kill them. This is where Silverline shine, When standing base to base, they can't be charged. Put them in front of something else you don't want in melee, and your opponent will have a difficult time handling them. The spell you'd want on them is Blur - with only a def of 12, they are hit by a still breeze, DEF 15 is another story though and will really help them against ranged. You should also get your charge in first. Crit-Knockdown is just an awesome bonus.
