Hey all, my table for Warmahordes is practically complete and I thought I'd share the results with you guys.

My first attempt at making a table was done using Foamular insulation foam. It started out seeming like a promising medium, but, after applying spray paint, the foam started to melt and I was back to square one. (Pictures of the failed foam table can be seen on my blog if you're actually interested.)

For my second attempt, I went with some 1/4" fiberboard in two 2' x 4' sheets. From there I picked up some cheap Home Shades light gray primer at Walmart and went to work. The primer was a bit splotchy at first, so I was initially worried at how the final results would look. After getting the boards primed, I went to work with some Rust-oleum rock-textured spray paint. The final results definitely exceeded my expectations, especially for a first custom table. It's drying right now, but once I get the clear coat on it will be ready for action. I'm planning on adding some terrain features and whatnot in the coming weeks (also, I nabbed a bucket full of rocks from the local river to use until I get some terrain features made). I apologize in advance for the enormous pictures...my phone can only go big or go home. Let me know what you think.

That is a nice texture. You could use it just as well for a city as a mountainous plateau.

Yeah, I may pick up another can of it to do some additional terrain work, but I may go for something a bit darker.

I've used the stone texture as well. Great stuff.

I'm excited to see how it will work for play. I'm hoping that the clear coat will help smooth things out a bit.

Yeah. I used a matte clear coat to seal it. It held up well. In fact I use my old table as a work table now beating on it with a hammer and other stuff.

I do recommend a solid color base coat.

I used a light gray primer for the base coat and then applied the textured stuff. I just applied a matte clear coat today and it turned out really well. I will hopefully get to test it this next week/weekend.
