I'm wondering what kind of stuff inspires you the most!

For me it's listening to Metal music and looking at the (mostly gory) covers of Death-, Black- and Thrash Metal bands.

Symphonic metal, heavy metal, perfect to listen to while doing anything creative. Sometimes I'll throw a bit of Trance in there too though.

I usually watch videos or maybe play a game at the same time, I like having multiple things to do.

They told me i was crazy, that i could not win with an army list like that. 2000 points later i found out that they were right

In general, seeing examples of stuff online or digging up minis out of storage are my primary motivation.

Sometimes I'll see a picture on a blog or showcase thread and be inspired to (for want of a better word) copying the style or composition. If I see a new way of painting, I'm often enthused to go off and try to replicate it, either because I like the result or just to see if I can.

Other times, I'll find an old mini that I put away months ago, and just find the inspiration I didn't have before, which often sets off a chain reaction of further revisiting old projects.

Anything and everything, really.

Films,TV, literature, artwork, video games, comics, youtube, forums...

Musically I tend to listen to a lot of film and video game soundtracks. At the moment I just can't stop listening to Danny Baranosky's utterly fantastic Crypt of the Necrodancer OST.

I listen to a lot of cool metal. Looking more into Bolt Thrower actually, the Realm of Chaos album has been helping me a lot, gives me some ideas to work on some new stuff. Generally, I check out a lot of new music when I'm painting, or go with some of my standbys like Sabaton and Orange Goblin, or old school with Judas Priest and Rainbow (If you don't know Rainbow, they have some of the most awesome bands I know, had Rodney James Dio on vocals, and that's just great)
Other then music, usually movies. I have some fun ideas from the new Mad Max movie. Seriously, it's basically Mad Max vs Da Kult of Speed

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Depends what I'm painting. For most models, I usually first picture a wider scene and imagine the lighting, what's going on outside the base itself. In those cases I'm inspired by old fantasy art books I read as a child, I think.
Otherwise I skim through this stuff:

I listen to 40K podcasts or 80s music, something light that does not affect my focus too much.

Wow, quite some response on the topic

Old pics of minis and other painting-blogs are a good resource, too. I totally agree with that!

Music I by far the best inspiration to paint not to mention the motivation it gives me once I start. I can paint for 4 hours and not even realize a hour has gone by, I become one with the brush. This is what I like to listen to when I paint.

Are there any artists (or DJ's or whatever you would call it) who did GW-inspired music? With Death Metal we got Bolt Thrower i.e., just google their album "realm of chaos" and it's in plain sight

We might be some lucky bastards! My GF also takes up a paintbrush every now and then. She even complained about me allowing her only to paint my goblins and Dark Elves
Amon Amarth are within my top 5, btw
