I was back home last weekend and dug up some of my models from my childhood (mostly Tau with some mixed SM and Eldar) I've decided to Get back into the game (last played during the era of 3rd and 4th edition). Speaking with my FLGS most of the games they run are at the 750 point level so I've been playing around with the following list while I strip the paint off of what I have and wait for my books to arrive:

Ethereal (50pts)

XV8 Crisis Team (104pts)
- Crisis Shas'ui (52pts) [Burst Cannon (10pts), Crisis Battlesuit, Twin-linked Missile Pod (20pts)]
- Crisis Shas'ui (52pts) [Burst Cannon (10pts), Crisis Battlesuit, Twin-linked Missile Pod (20pts)]

XV8 Crisis Team (57pts)
- Crisis Shas'ui (57pts) [Crisis Battlesuit, Missile Pod (15pts), Twin-linked Fusion Blaster (20pts)]

Fire Warrior Team (90pts) [10x Fire Warrior Shas'la with Pulse Rifle (90pts), Photon Grenades]

Fire Warrior Team (90pts) [10x Fire Warrior Shas'la with Pulse Rifle (90pts), Photon Grenades]

Kroot Carnivore Squad (118pts) [4x Kroot Hound (20pts), Sniper Rounds (14pts)]
- 14x Kroot (84pts) [14x Kroot Rifle]

Pathfinder Team (55pts) [Photon Grenades]
- 5x Pathfinder Shas'la (55pts) [5x Pulse Carbine with Markerlight]

Pathfinder Team (55pts) [Photon Grenades]
- 5x Pathfinder Shas'la (55pts) [5x Pulse Carbine with Markerlight]

Hammerhead Gunship (130pts) [Railgun with Submunitions (5pts), Twin-linked Smart Missile System]

The general idea of the list is the standard markerlight / gunline with the lone crisis suit and the kroot squad deekstriking/infiltrating to harass my opponent and pop high value targets. I'd love any feedback you folks can provide.

I like it.

I dont think you have enough real anti AV. Even at 750 the Hammer head rail fun just doesn't cut the mustard for anti tank.

I would swap the HH railfun for the Ion Cannon which would give you some much needed large blast AP2.

I would then make all your crisis with Plasma/TLfusion or Missile Pod/TLfusion (depending on your taste, at 750 MP is probs better as its more general purpose).

I would also try and get 1 hound into the Kroot squad so they wont be run down so easily.

If you need the extra points drop a few fire warriors or Kroot.

+remember your Ethereal Storm of fire works on normal Kroot rounds but not sniper.

Thanks for the comments.

Would you suggest grouping all three of the crisis suits together (assuming I go for Missile Pod/TLfusion)?

Na i would go separate, It wont be great in kill point missions but much better in objective and maelstrom. Also means you don't have to invest in target locks to shoot different targets but markerlights will be less efficient.

I also just think at low points solo crisis running around are awesome, it forces your opponent to dedicate a whole units shooting to take out one suit. they are also much easier to hide via JSJ when there is just 1.

also if you have the models I would swap the 10 path finders for 3 tetra. More more accurate (6TL markerlights on 3 platforms vs 10 markerlights on 2 platforms non-TL). Tetra are also immune to S3 which can be a bonus and can help your crisis to deepstrike with their teleport homers. It would also save you 5 points.

Forgeworld is Taus best friend!

I really miss my tau sometimes. I like the look of the list. I might make a few comments on the crisis suits loadouts. I always found when I ran crisis suits that making each suit specific to its task and doubling up on weapons made it more effective. So, you have 3 suits, all with MP's and a twin-linked second weapon. I would drop the twin-linked idea. Instead, just get 2 of the same weapon. With 3 suits, I would roll 2 dual MP suits and then 1 deep striking double fusion suit (add vectored retro thrusters if you want him out of combat).

What's your model count like? We can make better suggestions if we know your collection Looks like a solid start though!

So, just a few general Tau guidelines:

Castellan is correct, it never makes sense to mix weapons on a Crisis suit.

Pathfinders are overcosted. They are probably the worst of the available sources of markerlight support. At such a low points level, I would investigate Tetras. They're Forge World; so check with your group to see if they're allowed.

Firewarriors need Devilfish; or at the very least, an Aegis line. But it's really the former.

Just to caution you, Tau are slated for an August codex release. Much could change in the next few months. I would wait to change too much on your models until then. The rules, and our advice, could change in two months' time.

Good to hear a new codex is on the way soon, I'll likely try and keep my investment to core models that should still be useful post-update.

I have the old battle force (1x crisis suit, 3x stealth suit, 12x firewarriors, 12x kroot, 1x devilfish, +drones), I also have a box of firewarriors and a box of pathfinders. My plan (subject to change) is to pick up the hammerhead kit, the ethereal and a box of crisis suits in the next few weeks.

I have to say though, I hadn't really thought about the forgeworld stuff. Are the rules in the Tau codex (still waiting on my 6th edition one) or is there a forgeworld supplement I would have to get to use them (if that's the case how does a codex update affect them)? Are they tournament legal (flgs house rules aside)?

Wait on the Crisis suits! They are going to get new models!

The rules are not in the codex; you the "need" Tauros Campaign book. The rules are readily available in other online places; I'll spare you the specifics for propriety's sake.

They are tournament legal for the most part. Obviously some small RTTs still disallow FW.

Thanks for the warning

Assuming I hold off for a few month's on them then what should I look into as a possible replacement (dropping the squad of two). I've also shot my flgs an email about the forgeworld stuff, if they allow it I'd likely drop the pathfinders for 3 of them assuming I can find them for a decent price.

I'm not sold on the devilfish. It doesn't kill stuff often. With Tau I need things to die early or board control late is going to be down to nice dice

Make it interchangeble so it can be a skyray, a railhead or an ionhead

Well, firewarriors are not very good to begin with, but I'm not gonna tell the OP to replace his entire army 2 months before a dex. If you're going to take FWs, they need a fish; regardless of whether either selection is independently "competitive."

Right, so I'll add in the devilfish for one of the squads, remove the pair of suits (at least until we hear more about the new codex) and I'll hold off on the Tetra's for now (I'll see what the FLGS has to say). That should let me use most of what I already have and make for minimal invested prior to the codex release.

When I get home I'll put together a revised list.

Thanks for your feedback!

I like the list. Good amounts of AT and Anti Infantry
