I haven't been on for a while (I blame my Masters course for that), but I'm finally getting a game of Warhammer against a Warriors of Chaos player. Using the assembled units in my collection, I have compiled two lists, and I am unsure which to go with (which is where you guys come in hopefully):


List 1:

Bruiser w/ Heavy Armour and Enchanted Shield (114 pts)

7 Ogres w/ Musician and Ironfists (234 pts)

3 Leadbelchers (129 pts)
Sabretusk (21 pts)

Total- 498 pts


List 2:

Bruiser w/ Heavy Armour and Enchanted Shield (114 pts)

6 Ogres w/ Musician and Ironfists (202 pts)

3 Leadbelchers w/ Musician (139 pts)
Sabretusk (21 pts)
Sabretusk (21 pts)

Total- 497 pts


As an additional note, I also have assembled in my collection more Ogres and 5 Ironguts. My opponent has a unit of Warriors with Shields and Mark of Nurgle and a Chaos Lord (ET rules) with Enchanted Shield, Sword of Striking and Soul Feeder along with some vanguarding PA Warhounds (he hasn't got enough units to play minimum units, hence the Lord). The unit of Warriors is my main concern, as I'll be getting -1 to hit on an already tough unit that has lots of killing potential. As such, I am leaning towards the second list, that allows me to use one Sabretusk to distract the Warhounds and the other to provide a speedbump for the Warriors unit that'll provide time for my Leadbelchers to get off some shots at them and a chance for my Ogres (lead by the Bruiser) to get the vital charge and Impact Hits against them. In either list, I have the advantage of more units and I intend to work with it.

Please offer any helpful criticism, suggestions, alterations or veteran Ogre wisdom as you please. As a final note, neither of us intend to use magic, as it is an introductory game and neither of us have anything with wizard levels yet anyway.

Hey dude! Of your two lists, I prefer the second one - more musicians + more units is more better. However, I actually have a third list you might consider:

Bruiser w/ Heavy Armour and Enchanted Shield (114 pts)

5 Ironguts w/ Musician (225 pts)

3 Leadbelchers w/ Musician (139 pts)
Sabretusk (21 pts)

Total- 499 pts

Guts are superior in just about all ways to bulls (except for the parry save I suppose ), and you do have a lot of armor to chunk through. Loss of sabretusk #2 is unfortunate I guess, but admittedly the other 'tusk was most useful in making sure that warrior block doesn't see combat ... except you're both playing combat armies, so your games will inevitably involve both your deathstars smacking into each other anyway

Also, I'd try to encourage your friend to find a third unit. A 40mm based anything = a spawn, and five cav bases for extra warhounds is easy to come by. He'll have to cut into his warriors or lord to pay for them, but that's part of the point - WoC are an elite army, so you need to make decisions, especially at low points. But mostly, the idea is to get him more units to move around. Warhammer is pretty boring with just one unit to scoot forward, with no shooting and no magic and mostly waiting for your opponent to engage you on his/her terms.
