I'm thinking of running a Blood Angels captain at 1000pts with a Relic Blade (cause rule of cool and extra strength) and artificer armour in a drop pod that won't come down first turn. I want him to be joined by veterans (cause fluffy) but was wondering if anyone could advise me on what veterans would be the best escort? Sternguard, Vanguard Vets or a Command Squad.

I was planning on using them as an, arrive in the second wave, clean up anything that's causing the first wave problems unit.

So suggestions and loadouts would be appreciated.

Thanks, looks forward to hearing your thoughts

What's in your first wave/fire support base?

Well, since you're probably wanting him to get into combat, that pretty much rules out sternies due to rapid-fire (he could be used as a charge-deterrant but I suspect you'd rather get stuck in).
That leaves us with Vanguard vs. Command. On that front, for a 'normal' space marine army, I'd suggest a Command Squad for the upgrade of one of the members to an Apothecary, however I suspect that's not an option in the Blood Angels codex? (what with Sanguinary IC's and all), so it comes down to special weapons (Meltaguns or Flamers, avoiding rapid-fire Plasma or salvo Grav) against the versatility of adding more bodies to the unit.

My first wave is 2x 10 man tac squads with combi melta, melta and heavy flamer in pods and a 3rd empty pod which I'd fill with the commander.

My support is 5 death company with a librarian and grav bikes.

@Quanar, Blood Angels command squads are forced to take apothecary and champion.

TBH i'm just looking for something interesting to add to it. I like the idea of adding some 1st company, and thought I could stick them in as a command squad or equivalent for a captain.

If you think trying to shoe horn in a captain in is stupid, alternative suggestions are welcome
