Hey guys, just got the new knight warden model. Couple of questions:

I plan on playing the formation with cult mech, skitarii and the knight. So upgrades are free, points shouldn't matter too much as a result, I'm looking for te most competitive knight build.

Does it give you enough arms to make a crusader, but also have a chainsword arm to swap out? Since it has an extra sprue?

Is te crusader with a pintle melta gun the best variant? He loses the D weapon in CC, but is str 10 anyway...

Are other variants better? Thanks for your time!!!

In all honesty what you need to do is take the model, spend quality time building it and painting it to your liking, then smash it. Knights are VERY competetive in pieces under our boots. /sarcasm

It seems this may be better in the tactics forum, since it's about being the most competitive build of a model. But whatever, it is about just one model.

As for whether the box contains enough goodies, well, the webstore has this to say

It features three completely new faceplates, a new tilting plate/shield, a set of new Adeptus Mechanicus icons and a frankly insane amount of weaponry: a chest pintle Meltagun, a gatling cannon assembly (with heavy flamer), the infamous Reaper chainsword, a thunderstrike gauntlet, a thermal cannon and a rapid-fire battle cannon - on top of this there are carapace options including rocket pods, missile pods and an anti-air twin Icarus cannon.

So can I build all the arms with one kit and interchange them?

Yes. The "Elbow Stub" of the main gun arm is easily magnetized, my friend did that so he could swap back and forth between the BC and Inferno Cannon.

Not sure about the ease of magnetizing the Reaper arm, but you shouldn't have to worry about the Guantlet. I mean, paying extra points so that you can strike like a Power Fist's initiative? What a turd sandwich.

The only tricky part might be if you want to run the Crusader Variant as part of an ensemble, as I'm not sure how tricky the sub-out of a whole arm would be.

Judging from the one sprue they show on the webstore, I'd say most of the weapons are made as modular as possible, but odds are you only get two arms (L-R) to mount them on. So you will need some very pain-staking cutting & filling, and magnetization work to keep them interchangeable. The faceplates are there, and I suppose if you want you can make then swappable too. I'd say just look carefully at the sprues and plan carefully how you are going to manage it.

I'm pretty sure that Rapid Fire Cannon and Thermal cannon share fore arm, so you should magneise if you want both. As far as I can see the kit have two shooting weapons arms.

Dark Angels ~ 7350pts (about 5800 painted);
Ultramarines ~ 4700pts (about 2700 painted);
Imperial Knights ~ 1300pts (about 800 painted);
Skitarii and Mechanicum ~ 2000pts (about 1800 painted);
Assassins ~ 850pts;
Tyranids ~ 2000pts

Yes, you have enough parts to build any one of the 5 Knights types. Yes, you can magnetize so the your one knight can have all of the weapon options. As noted above, the Battle Cannon and Thermal Cannon share parts, but there are a number of tutorials on the interwebs on how to set them up do they are swapable. Note, the two missile launcher upgrades share the same body, it's the face plate that you swap out (magnets!).

On the Cult Mechanicus Convocation, you cannot upgrade a Warden into a Crusader for free, if that's what you are asking. You can add the carapace mounts, the meltagun upgrade, and the Gauntlet "upgrade" for free. The Stormspear Rocket Pod (3x S8 AP3) and the Meltagun net you 50 free points, and add four S8 attacks to your base model. Considering how shooty the formation is, taking the Gauntlet for free is worth it (paying 10 points definitely isn't).

Hope that helps!

Anyone else?

I'm trying to figure out which one to build...

It'll run mostly with skitarii, cult mech and IG.

I'm leaning toward the crusader

The obvious choice (From a GW standpoint) Is simply buy 2 and build one of each! But FETH THAT, just magnetize them and run them each in a few lists. Your mileage with vary with each but whatever your local meta is, youll make use of either. If not, just sub out and dont waste $150+ on another model. Simple as that.

For Skitarii support, the Crusader is a gem! Definitely star with that! To save points, I'd say the Warden is next best, or the Paladin. Normally I tell people to go with the Errant, but the Skitarii are not lacking in tank busting AP1.
