We have a couple of people in TX and CA who have been adopting a little known set of Mass Combat Historical Miniatures rules (although well known enough to have two other authors rip them off) to Fantasy Combat.

We would like to come up with a new name for the rules (The name of the Historical Rules is too generic, and does not suggest "Usable for Fantasy" AT ALL).

The rules are:

• Unit based, with elements (multiple miniatures per base/stand) instead of individually based miniatures.
• Points based, rather than scenario driven.
• Intended to be used with about 50 - 200 elements per side (depending upon points).
• Intended to be used for worlds such as Hyboria, Middle-earth, Glorantha, and/or The Young Kingdoms (Melnibonëan worlds of Elric and The Eternal Champion) - so, anywhere from very little magic to quite a bit

I have so far come up only with things that are pretty bland: Magic and Mass Combat; Swords, Spears, Shields against Spells (that one only because it is alliterative and has the acronym SSSAS); Swords and Spells (SAS); The Rites of War/Warfare; The Rituals of War/Warfare; De Bellis Magus or De Bellis Praecantatio (since the basic rules mechanisms are based upon DBA/DBM), I have also considered De Bellis Magus Praecantatio (the word "Praetantatio" is Latin for "Witchcraft," "Magic," or "Sorcery" - DBMP doesn't have a bad ring to it. De Bellis Fantasticatus - DBF, or something like that - is already taken); etc..

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

According to my wife, a Latin teacher with 14 years of experience, that isn't anywhere close to being the correct translation. "Don't use google translate for important projects." Mrs Kronkington to her students...

The name works if your rule set is descended from the DBA family. Sort of confusing if your game has no connection to that rule set.

Yes, the rules are derived from the DBx mechanisms, at least for Melee (although ONLY in the sense that it is two elements rolling against each other with a combat factor calculated for each). But HOW the combat factor is calculated diverges from DBx.

Also, missile combat is completely different.

But the foundation of the game is DBx

As for whether the name Translates completely accurately, that is less important.

If someone were to suggest a Latin name with the correct acronym, that might be helpful.
