Serious nostalgia here, for those who remember the Cold War and don't mind the politically incorrect. Russia and stuff. Boom. New color cards.

Simple hand management game. Play propaganda to "convince" your opponent's people to defect to your country. Launch missiles when you're good and ready. Play your cards two turns ahead -- and don't be caught with leaflets when you should be launching missiles. Invoke Final Retaliation. Fun for the whole family (or at least the kids, because they want blow up each other but not before they take out Dad first)!

Creator has run five KS and been in the hobby games business for 40-some years. Glow-in-the-dark Malfunction die for $2.

Note: If the 100 megaton bomb explodes a nuclear stockpile, a super chain reaction starts which destroys all countries, the Earth itself and the entire solar system.

I loved that game! That was our go-to party game, and was fun as hell with 12+ people...

I should mention that the 50th edition has upgrades from the current retail edition. Besides color, the Population cards are made from... cards! In the retail version, you cut out the cards from black-and-white card stock. Yes, we liked it that way.

HOWEVER, Buffalo Games isn't the wealthiest of game companies, and the *early* printings (30-some years ago?), long sold out, of the expansions had a GLOW-IN-THE-DARK "radioactive" die. The retail version is likely to have the less climactic boring old plastic die. I'm trying to confirm that you can get this $2 add-on at the $1 bumper sticker pledge, so you too, can roll glow-in-the-dark dice in full daylight. By today's standards, the dice design (I don't know if it's been updated) is pretty "meh", but you can think of it as a historical reproduction harking back to the days when the only plastic men gamers knew about were green army men you blew up with firecrackers and melted with magnifying glasses.



Base game doesn't include the die, so here're the instructions if you get one:

Differences
1 – When attacking, roll on the same Attack Chart. If the result is NOT “Missile Explodes” or “Dud” the player may either accept the result or add the roll of the Radioactive Die. If the cloud (1) is rolled, roll again on the Malfunction Chart.
2 – If a 100 Megaton warhead rolls Triple Yield, the planet is destroyed. Game over.

Malfunction Chart – roll 1d6
Roll Result
1 Cloud Disaster! The warhead has hit one of your own cities. You suffer the damage and lose the population.
2 Orbital Burst! The warhead goes off in the atmosphere over you. Discard launcher and you lose one turn.
3 Missile explodes on launch pad / Bomber runs out of fuel. Discard launcher and warhead.
4 Warhead is a dud. No damage.
5 Neutron Bomb! Double damage.
6 You hit a nuclear power plant. Double damage and attacked player loses one turn.
