Im leaving it open ended - how ever you determine the "best" to mean. All I ask is that you dont simply pick your "pet" Primarch for fluff reasons alone. Please include reasons why you think you've found the best of the litter.

My vote (though Im a die-hard Ultramarine) has to go to Corvus Corax. WS and I 7 and 6 attacks with Jump Infantry.

Horus or Lorgar basically win any beatstick competition, there's essentially no reason to discuss the topic from that angle.

I think Alpharius has the most interesting rules.

But my favorite primarch is Vulkan.

I voted for Vulkan, as he is arguably the toughest of them with his 6 wounds, toughness 7 2+ 3++ and re-rollable it will not die. PLUS his great beam rending gun and his Giant hammer makes taking out tanks and hordes pretty easily.

Sadly he's not the strongest. Great for trolling xenos or infantry given that he simply won't die when faced with any heat weaponry, but both Horus and Guilliman can kill him in a fight.

1v1 it's Horus

Lorgar isn't as tough anymore since book 5 got rid of his invisibility....

IIRC, hilariously Guilliman can actually beat Horus if he suffers a couple of bad rolls, unlike many of the other Primarchs. It's quite funny how Guilliman became a CQC monster that will beat the snot out of most other Primarchs.

That seems appropriate for Guilliman, though. He strikes me as a quick study at any task, including fighting a specific opponent.

If we're going by straight probability in a fight, Horus wins against every other Primarch. IIRC, Guilliman and Vulkan come close, but they both get torn to pieces in the end.

Of course, by any other metric, Konrad Curze is easily the coolest Primarch so far.

Lorgar I'd say, re roll all hits, wounds and saves is bloody powerful, attach a couple of mastery 3 liby to the unit to get invisibility too, combine it with the forced rr he can do, maybe not the best but way up there

Well Yeah, in Primarch v Primarch his low initiative and low attacks will lead to him having a very hard time, but I thought we meant vsing regular units.

Magnus took out 2 Eldar Revnant titans single handedly. He also soaked up about 20 plasma cannon shots to the face and still tossed Bjorn off a cliff. Don't get more bad ass than that! If his book ever comes out we'll see how he stacks up rules wise.

But you'd never know this cause we can't vote for him!

So, is this poll about who is best in close combat against other Primarchs, or just who is the best Primarch in general?
As a simple beatstick against non-Primarchs, Primarchs are a waste of points, as you can do better with lesser characters and investing the points in bigger and better units. Against other Primarchs, Lorgar will win against all but Horus, assuming he successfully casts his psychic powers, as that is never guaranteed. Without the powers, he is the weakest.
Now, if we go by what the Primarchs actually bring to the table with their special rules for buffing their legions, it gets different. It's a toss-up between Alpharius and Fulgrim. Alpharius gives the Alpha Legion Preferred Enemy, and that alone is very good. Fulgrim can choose his Warlord trait, and also grants +2 combat res while he is on the table, and as the Emperor's Children are designed to assault, win the assault, and sweep the enemy unit off the board, both of those can make a big difference. If anything, I have to give Fulgrim the edge because of the ability to choose his Warlord trait.

Lorgar Transfigured. Beats all the others with ease for the relative cost.

His basic abilities are weakish, but add precognition (reroll to hit, to wound and failed saves) and misfortune (force enemy to reroll successful saves) and he will beat up pretty much all the others.

Oh right. A shame.

(I still play 6th. No good reason to move to 7th as it does not seem better to me.)

My FAVORITE Primarch is different to who I think is the best Primarch. The best Primarch is, by far, Corax, but my favorite is definitely Perturabo. IRON WARRIORS FTW!!!

I don't have all the models, but I was bored the other night and substituted 2 orks for the Primarchs.

One was Guilliman, the other was all the other Primarchs.

Gilliman beat all of them except for Horus and Mortarian.

Fulgrim was the longest fight, went into 11-12 rounds but in the end Guilliman killed him.

It comes down to tactics, which weapon do you want to use, a Gladius at initiative or a STR 10 AP1 fist?

against Horus, I had Horus use the claw because it helps keep his WS and Strength down but as long as you use Guilliamans PF it keeps it competitive.

All the other primarchs weren't too bad.

just gotta remember to use IWND

For anyone who doesn't know, the mathhammer has already been done for all the primarchs released so far:s
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Primarch
The entries for each one has a section showing the results. Horus beats all of them, even Lorgar Transfigured.

But, that's why I earlier said that my vote is based on everything a Primarch brings to the table, and not just their personal killing ability.

This right here.
