I'm looking at ISUs as a Corps Support option for Russian infantry, most likely either Udarny or regular Strelkovy. What do you think the pros and cons are for the ISU-122 vs the ISU-152. They both have the same range and ROF, with the ISU-122 having slightly higher AT and 2+ firepower and the ISU-152 having slightly lower AT and 1+ firepower with bunker buster, while also being slightly cheaper in terms of points.

How do you guys utilize your heavy assault guns when supporting Soviet infantry? Any recommendations or important factors to consider when choosing one ISU over the other?

Edited for proper ISU-122 capabilities.

I thought they were both rate of fire 1. If the 122 is actually rof 2 then it is by far the winner since its guards it doesn't suffer hen an chicks and the AT is plenty to kill tanks and bunker buster isn't that big of a deal and it is still a break through gun

I don't I use T-34/85s and SU-100s. That said the 152 is better if you're fighting against enemies in buildings or dug in/gun shielded gun teams. Otherwise the 122 is outright better.

You're right! I don't know what I was thinking. They are both ROF 1 and have the same range. I think I accidentally looked at the SU-122 profile instead of the ISU-122.

Since they are both ROF 1 and have the same range, it is basically a tradeoff between the ISU-122 having higher AT and slightly lower firepower, and the ISU-152 having slightly lower AT and better firepower, and bunker buster (and slightly cheaper points-wise).

Is the ISU-122 worth the extra points just for the higher AT?

I suppose it really depends what you're up against. The IS-2 gives you the same gun on a more flexible chassis.

If you're facing StuGs you'll not need the extra AT, if you're facing Panthers you will. It's just over 10 points extra per tank for 152s. The ability to move and fire at non bogged/bailed tanks may save 122s, where 152s would get flanked. However neither of them are dedicated tank hunters and their preferred targets are gun teams.

I don't use either of them. I us SU122 for my infantry assault guns. Those have to be the most under costed tanks in the game. 170 points for 4 AT10 ROF2 break through gun with volley fire! Yes please and oh yea they are armoires 551 can't beat them

alos bunker buster means that it can ONLY hit bailed out tanks so ISU-122 for not moving and cover fire on tanks and ISU-152 for blowing building it depend on your list

+1 to ChrisRR. SU-122 is what I take if I am looking to dislodge dug in infantry.

However, I thought bunker buster just meant it can only hit bailed out tanks -if it moved-. If you sit still then you can hit enemy armor. Or am I misreading the book again?

Bunker buster means it can only hit bailed out tanks even if you sit still. Therefore you going to have a hard time shoting at tanks.

I checked the RB and can not find this, can you tell me where it is? We may have played wrong.

You can target armor if you don't move. This still makes the 122 far superior. I like the look of the 152 though.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Armour penetration is the best reason to take those monsters, so go for the ISU-122 as it has more.

You dont need many though, fill the army with something else, the KV-85 is my favourite Soviet heavy, it has the fewest problems.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
