Hey folks,

On Saturday my brother inlaw and I enjoyed a great wargaming day at Bovington tank museum and my brother inlaw wished to start a Russian FoW force. Seeing that PSC had a deal on and knowing that their quality is fantastic (got lots of german and brit stuff) he picked up 3 boxes of infantry a heavy weapons box and some T34's........however I am the one painting them (good thing I have two weeks off work!).

So getting to my point, do the PSC dudes fit into the FoW bases? Or is it better to get bases without the recesses in them?

Yeah they are an exact fit into the holed FOW bases. Well, the Brits I have are anyway, dunno about the Russians but I doubt they are any different.

Edit: Whose got Russian PSC infantry?

You can get not recessed FoW base easily - not tried PSC on the recessed ones

I dont use the the hole style bases, but they should go. but be careful the PSC Soviets are tru scale 15mm. and may look a little wimpy on side by side with BF models. Also having to glue on the arms are a pain.We have eventually swapped out the bulk of the psc models for old glory(skytrek for thoose in the uk) and BF.

The old soviets don't have circular bases for the holes, your a lot better with the flat FoW bases.

Note the PSC bases are very nice, but fractionally larger, doesn't matter in the game but makes them a pain if you use KR cases..

The PSC models for Soviets are very nice, but look very odd mixed with other models so you end up limited to PSC models though. Need a different painting style, washes as they lack the depth to make layering work well but reward washes with the gentle detail they have

Thanks guys,

At the moment my bro inlaw dosn't have any other 15mm dudes so they should look fine, my Germans will just look a bit fat next to them lol.

Thanks for the tip on the painting front, I was planning on a fairly simple scheme as I have 490 guys to get through! Good to hear the washes work well

They are troops from the Leningrad or Stalingrad break out in search of Potato soup and Sandwiches.

Quick example, PSC infantry alongside Zvezda vehicles on PSC bases.

Paint here on the troops in khaki grey as a base for the uniform, with khaki for webbing then the 'brown wash' (not brown shade or sepia shade, the more dilute one in the larger bottle). Flesh is 'heavy fleshtone' with a flesh wash over. Helmets are a green, again with a wash and a highlight this time (to match the armour).

Painted on the base, which has a cheap bit of filler applied, base then painted brown and drybrushed with cheap emulsion.

Quick and effective, won't win awards but will do the job

Can add a basic camo job and you have scouts, painted in a similar way.

Weirdly have found with BF models that layering doesn't actually take all that much longer but with the PSC ones washes are the way to go, the details are very subtle and the harsher effect of layering looks wrong on them
