Its high time this happened.

Looking to get into a tabletop mini game that is actually fun, exciting and worth investing in? Stop looking. You found it.

Welcome back to Mordheim adventurers!

The city is still here and still chock full of wyrdstone. Still plenty of warbands, rogues and monsters too, so bring your sword and buckler and don't forget your helmet. You're gonna need 'em!

Since Mordheim is oop we don't have to worry about pesky books or retailers. Just Google Mordheim and you will find a ton of info including the full game rules and roster sheets. Whether you're a purist or not you can find the original rules as well as plenty of fan produced rules and warbands.

So what's the point of this thread? Well, its simple really. Whether you are an old pro or fresh meat you're more than welcome to post pics here. The only rule is that it's gotta be Mordheim related! Whether it's a terrain piece, a mini, or an idea for a conversion, we want it here! Our Mordheim is your Mordheim! One for all and all for one! Let the wyrdstone fall from the skies like its 1999 again!

Its a damn shame what's happening to mini wargames right now but we can take action! Join me and the hopefully countless others in rediscovering this classic game and bringing it back to where it belongs; the top!

So get your minis out! Get some glue! Get some paint! Get your dice! Get your friends!

And folks....

GET SOME WYRDSTONE!!!

Here is that delectable dark Elf all posed up.

A little tweak on that arm makes him so much better. Be careful not to scar up the piece and be extra careful not to twist that little elbow right apart! Also, he might seem like he leans forward a bit, but again some gentle effort and you can make him look really vibrant. I can't wait to paint this sucker!

Technically you can't see his ears so he could be any kind of humanoid. Maybe I'll use him in the undead warband? He could be a pretty darn good Vamp or Necro, or even a Dreg that's advanced a bit. Nothing stopping this fellow from being a Hired Sword or even a Witch Hunter or a Merc! That's the real beauty of Mordheim folks...

Here are a couple Mercenaries, probably from some Empire kit by the looks of those pantaloons!

I've added a sword and buckler to one fellow, plus a pack and sword sheath. The other fellow has just a dwarf handgun added to him and he looks like he is reloading now. Hope he has more than just a dagger while he's at it!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Great idea for a thread chief, Mordheim could do with a bigger presence on Dakka, especially considering "recent events"( ). I love those 6th? Ed Empire starter box plastics, they're such a pain to get hold of these days especially still on sprue - the modern handgunner kit weapons are a bit OTT for my taste.

I've been busy with my INQ28/40K stuff recently, but here's a few pics of the last couple of warbands I was working on; Cult of the Possessed and Clan Moulder Skaven(for which I have put together a set of rules, available here in PDF form, feedback from games to help refine them would be most welcome if anyone gets the chance).

Mutated Rat Ogres & Giant Rats:

Bow & Spear/Shield Brethren:

Mutants:

Possessed:

Magister & a shot of the whole band so far:

I'm presently considering whether to finish off the WiP Skaven band, my WiP Dwarf band, or start work on my Fimir warband project(rules from Liber Malefic/Werekin's excellent in-progress "Mutiny in Marienburg" supplement/expansion) which I have all the necessary bitz for but will require substantial sculpting work.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

This seems like an exciting project. You've definitely won me over onto the circular bases for Fantasy team. Have you got a campaign set up yet? I'd love to see these minis in action.

Dang... I just noticed the round bases! His minis are so eye catching one hardly notices the difference.

I guess for Mordheim bases don't really matter much as long as the size is equivalent for the model and you can put the model face up or down easily without any fuss.

Side tracked me there. I just wanted to share this tip for making hanging rope. I know you can find pretty small string for model ships, but I don't like how flimsy it looks and feels. As an alternative to real rope for your terrain pieces try this instead.

Question for Yod...

That Moulder Warband, is that the same one from the expanded Mordheim PDF? I seem to remember seeing Clan Moulder in one of the lists I have on my PC.

I haven't played it yet but I should. Would be a great use for my IoB Skaven!

Cheers guys. Bottle has the right of it, they're essentially just Empire Huntsman bodies with Huntsman arms on the archers and Flagellant arms with Skaven Clanrat weapons & shields on the spearmen. The heads are also a mix of Huntsmen & Flagellant kits. Beyond that I just added "cuffs" to the boots, extended their jerkins downwards and filled/smoothed the fronts to make them look more robe-ish, added the odd torn sleeve to the Flagellant arms, and sculpted on the bit round the shoulders & the classic mask/hood combo(I tried to draw from both the original Brethren models and the newer look from the Mordheim videogame). The studs are Grandt Line plastic rivets and the accessories are just random dagger & pouch bitz.

darkcloak: nice find man, you could also use him as a Freelancer hired sword(once you've nailed a fish to his shield of course ).

Someone should release Murderheim or something, a ripoff set in medieval germany with vampires, witch hunters, rat men (nosferatu) and knights and alchemists all searching for some magic crystals in a ruined roman city... I'd kickstart that...

I know right? Yod has taken the cake for best Warband conversion. I'm all like "look at my rope! Hadurp!".

Murderheim, lol! Marderheim maybe? Who knows.

Actually this is one of the other amazing things about Mordheim. You can add your own spin, you can take away things you dislike, you could even give it a more ethnic twist and search for wyrdstone in Germany or wherever. The basic rules are so easy to learn and the depth of gameplay draws you in so well, if you had a dedicated group you could use almost any setting.

Anyways here is a painting question. I want to play a Marienburg band but I want to go for the criminal aspect of the faction rather than the merchant look. How would I represent this in terms of colour scheme as well as warband building?

Here are a couple shots of what I've got so far. As you can see I was thinking green and black, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Obviously I want the green to be much brighter, this is just the base coat. The idea I was going for was that these Marienburgers are thugs hired by, erm uh, employees of, a notable merchant looking to increase his guild standing by coming to Mordheim to secure vast amounts of wealth. To represent this I thought I could paint each group of henchmen a different colour and have a single unifying colour throughout.

I would suggest starting with an original Warband, that is one from the main book. There are lots of other "supplements" (if you will) that appeared in White Dwarf and in other GW publications, plus a lot of fan made warbands and settings. Once you start playing though you'll quickly want to expand your collection so don't sweat starting out too much!

Personally I think Mercenaries are a great way to learn the game, but if you want to learn how to use magic you'll have to rely on hired swords or start a new band. What do you like about Mordheim? Are you a Fantasy player already or is there a Warband that catches your eye?

There is a lot of stuff online about Mordheim tactics and such but there is just so much it can be hard to find a source you like or that isn't already on Dakka... So I'm just gonna blab about some basic stuff I've read.
Spoiler:

When starting out you generally want to buy more lightly armed and armoured henchmen and try to maximize your hero allowance. It may seem like a few dudes armed to the teeth is a good idea but its really not. Armour is easily mitigated and models can be put out of action very quickly once the fighting starts so generally its best to strike a balance between boys and toys. You want lots of hero's because these are the guys who get the best advances (like a level up) and each hero helps gain you more wyrdstone and chances for good loot after each battle.

Of course this is all assuming that your campaigns are geared toward actually continuing the adventure and not obliterating your opponent. Mordheim is not fantastic in regards to balance, but then again it's not exactly chess, so a tiny bit of forethought must go into planning a campaign. Thankfully though even with all the extra stuff Mordheim is easy to balance and even fluffy warbands have a good chance to compete in a good campaign.

Also I know it goes without saying, but I'm gonna say it anyways... Or is that type? Lol... If you have pretty much any kind of medieval/fantasy miniatures you can use them for Mordheim. The RoC still applies and so too does WYSIWYG, and if you play Warhammer already well, you're golden. Of course, who wouldn't want original Sisters of Sigmar, but in reality? I think I'd accept pretty much ANY female mini carrying a hammer who looked half the part if it meant I got to play against Sisters of Sigmar! Ha!

In summary? I think you can safely choose any Warband to start with in this game and you will have fun. Even if you find that you've moved on to another band, well now you have two! Teach someone else how to play! It cost you what? The biggest Warband has maybe 20 models, and most are around 12-15. Even if you splurge on brand new toys or hobby supplies and go all out that's a pretty small order.

And because I'm really long winded! I recently bought some new toys online from a retailer I like. I got 20 zombies, 10 Flagellants, 10 State Troopers, and a Wight King for about the cost of a started kit at the flgs. That's three, maybe four warbands at a starter level. Given that I'm a gamer I already have enough toys to make 2 other warbands... The rules were free from GW online, but can be easily found elsewhere.

There is literally no reason not to start playing Mordheim. Well, at least as far as I can see...
