So apparently there was some sort of Games Day on at Warhammer world over the weekend. I hadn't heard anything about it but this morning found this on my facebook feed from Painting Buddha.

So I heard the 'Tank Day' Mini-Games Day at GW HQ was a "great success".
45 paying visitors, 20 entries. I seem to remember events at my local GW with more entries, but then again I am old and those memories seem a life-time away.
But really, They even handed out a Slayer Sword? Who took the edge of that one anyways. Ah, deflation. And China steel. But it won't rust, so that's cool.
Look, strange people lying on their backs at headquarters handing out swords for 20 entries in one category... that's no basis for a contest.
At least they charge 7,5GBP for entrance to the museum now and the target demographic (youngblood) contributed 1 (one) entire entry to the event, so there is that.
Next Mini-GD: 17-18th October 2015. Tickets available August 10th. Subject: unknown (Sigmarine?) Just prepare everything (but tanks) and you'll be golden. And we all know that 6-8 weeks of preparation for a GD is plenty of time.
Quote from a serious painter and long time GD Fanboy: "I am actually really sad this event ever existed".
As some of you know, I ended up not going to Tank Day because Forge World has not sent me my tank yet (grot tank!) and they don't seem to respond to emails in general. So I guess I really need to thank them. I seriously love those guys - no kidding, no irony, no sarcasm. FW <3 FTW. Maybe I'll go to FW open day in Amsterdam.
So if one of the selected handful of 45 visitors reads this and could post some pics and/or their thoughts on the event..
...I'd be really "interested"

Does anyone know anything about this at all? I can find some Golden Demon tank entries on Warhammer World's page but other than that it seems to be entirely people just posting pics of what may or may not have been an event.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

It's a new style of Golden Daemon event they're trying. There will still be Warhammer Fest (Games Day) in October, but WHW are trying out a series of smaller painting events. Like anything they experiment with, if it was deemed worthwhile they'll do more, if not, they won't.

Oh my, no. It was a lot lower key than Games Day. Not even open-day style crowds or such. Think busy store weekend.
2/3 the normal tables set up, a bank of glass cabinets (far more than needed but at a guess they move as a unit), a row of desks set up with a photography booth, and two tables for a "repair zone".

By about 2pm I was able to wander in, get a sandwich and grab a vacant gaming table for a casual game.

Very nice atmosphere, very relaxed, just a painting contest.

That said, the standard was phenomenal, and the size of the event should in no way undermine the lad's win.

£7.50 to go in the museum now, huh? It was free when I went last (2011).

It changed when it re-opened in May.

It's a lot different now. Easily 5 times the size+ than the previous Hall of Miniatures, with much bigger and more impressive displays.
I'll make it to WHW a couple of times a year, and I'd have no problem forking out every time to go see the new stuff.

i think its a bit ridiculous to charge seven quid, I guess its ok if you only see it a couple of times a year but I really used to enjoy popping on monthly for a look around.

I noticed the big space marine is still out front too, just in a different spot.

Rayvon, there's two. One is in the stairwell (currently obscured by their AoS display, and one is in the car park. Lurtz is in the bar, the Rhino is in the car park, and I think there's a third marine in storage. I just remember there being another, blue, on a giant pole.
People made a big thing about the Sigmar statue, it's actually entirely possible to miss unless you're using the staff/overflow car park. The giant wall mounted Aquila is still the first thing you see.

The museum is a lot different now. I have been through twice (dragged through by friends) and there's little to no historic element of GW in there now. Just massive displays, which are impressive, but once you've seen them, there's no real urge to see them repeatedly.
There's also no LotR content - a user pointed out that this may be because GW cannot charge admission to view New Line's IP.
I would have no objection to the museum charging seasonally, but daily is too much.

The historic stuff was my favorite part; I usually went into the mini's hall for the nostalgia rather than to see massive displays.

I suspect the reason there is no LOTR is because they are trying to pretend it doesn't exist, I'm sure that once the license has run out they'll quietly pull everything and it'll be like it never existed.

It's such a shame they are so keen on hiding their history.

I see, I was sure there was at least two I had seen in the past, memorys not best though, Its nice to see they propped one up in bugmans !

I actually had to go and have a walk around outside before I managed to find the big gold Sigmar chap, I was expecting him to be out front proudly displayed at the entrance !

I used to go and look at the displays quite often before christmas, and I have been to quite a few of the events or I would have been tempted to pay for a look around, at the end of the day I guess its geared to be more of a visitor centre now and i am not really the target audience as much as once was, still a shame I used to get a lot of motivation to paint and model by looking at those displays, they also tempted me into buying things quite often, my wallet will thank them I guess.

Shred City.

Ahhh, Games Day.

I was so sad when I returned to the hobby a few years back and discovered they stopped doing them here in Canada.

I was cleaning out my bedroom earlier this week and came across a big pile of photos I took with my trusty disposable cameras back when I was a kid. Seeing all those Tau tables (2001 was when they launched and the Kroot Shaper Anghor Prok was the Games Day mini), really sweet terrain and everything.

PrehistoricUFO, maybe you could scan them and put up a blog post or something? that sounds worth remembering, and I'm sure other people would enjoy sharing their memories too.

Rayvon, I know what you mean. I once stood happily looking into a case in that old miniature hall for so long that all the lights went off.
I thought that an employee had shut the lights off because it was closing time, and perhaps not realised I was there. I jumped and they came back on. Turns out there was a movement based light timer and I'd just been so bewitched studying the display that I hadn't tripped it in at least ten minutes.
I used to regularly go and see the new releases in there and study the paint schemes.

Things like the story behind Gandalf's Cart, the Peter Jackson miniature, the labels explaining unusual minis, and the seats and such, that made that hall feel like a trophy room, something special.
Now it's very different. I won't say worse, but it feels less targeted at me, more at people who're visiting once a year or form abroad.

They do, but now it's called "Warhammerfest".
