Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!





Holy Terra.

So, soon I'll be getting new stuff, and I would like advice on how to kit them out.

New Stuff
Storm talon : x2
Vanguard vets x5
Devastators x10
Land speeders x2

All of these for my Space Marine army, SHADOW'S HUNTERS!!!
Which are tau supporters, BTW

Really really, it depends on the rest of your army - what's the plan? What are your current weaknesses?

That said, the 'Talons are really easy to magnetise, and the speeders should be similarly easy.

Infantry-sized models are a bit different, as magnetising them is fiddly. Instead, mixing in some spare tacticals should get you good mileage out of the devastator kits.

Vanguards are very YMMV, so I'll leave those for someone else to cover.

I always fly my talon with the Skyhammers. The other options are not necessarily bad, but IMHO the bust points-to-effectiveness weapon is the hammer.
My VV are fully magnetized. There are so many options, and it depends on what you are going to use them for. Probably a few axes/swords, melta bombs, and SSs in some combination,
Do you need any of those devs for duty in tac squads? Do you have spare PA bodies to build them all? What CT are you using? I’d probably build a 4xLC squad, as that’s the best, most focused use for devs. Probably 4xML for general use as a second squad, but they are very jack-of-all trades. I’d figure out what your list needs more of and build from there (although that should be said for everything on the list)

TML/HB speeders are my LS of choice these days. Good firepower, reasonable price, fast and long ranged.

Skyhammer missiles have a higher rate of fire, though. You don't need to force jinks, you're more likely to kill one of them.

You don't need to kill.

Basic Mathhammer 40k shows that the Skyhammer barely kills a Scatterbike, and the Typhoon kills exactly one with Krak. However, by forcing them to jink, they either really DO lose one or lose a ton of firepower. Add on that S8 can ID more things and it's simply the more solid weapon. Skyhammer has better range and stuff though, but forcing jinks on biking units and Flyrants is more a valuable tool.

That’s why I like the Skyhammer. It’s not that the typhoon is bad, but just not worth the points over the hammers. It’s not as bad as it used to be; they were comically overpriced in pervious iterations. IMHO the role of the talon is killing light armor, either in the sky or on the ground. For that, more shots is more important the the AP.

Frankly, all the gun options have a place, although the TLHBs is a little niche.
