Demons. Essentially.
There is a lot of information about them in the original
d20 monsternomicon. Essentially it's a Blanket term for outsiders thst like to meddle in the affairs of Caen.
It's believed they life in a realm separate to Caen and urcaen, and that there are 9 factions, or orders of infernals. They don't create souls, hence their interest in Caen, and in stealing souls for their own use. They use souls as 'currency' and as 'building blocks' to create the foot soldiers in their legions (called conscriptus, or deconcriptus for creations made from part of a soul) which can take many forms. What's truly horrifying is these creatures never truly die. They're chopped up and blended together again and sent off to battle. So essentially your soul is torn to shreds in Their wars. If you are clever, youv an negotiate with their agents (typically curators) for some infernal warriors, but you pay in souls, and in sacrifice.
There are various ranks within infernal society. Those who summon them and attempt to bargain with them do so at their own risk, as there can be a terrible price to pay. The nonokrian order is detailed as having Enforcers are the lowest rank, and are basically summoned warriors. Next rank up is curators (who most summoners deal with. Above them are executors who deal in soul bargains of over a hundred souls a go (there are 81 executors),architects (nine in total) and at the top of the pile are the three Magnus. None have ever had dealings with the higher levels.
It is believed they have sinister long term plans for Caen, but these are, as yet unknown. It is suspected they played a role in the acquisition of magic by humans. In the fluff, they describe charnel pits in the ancient kingdom of morddh where thousands were sacrificed, and where the first telgesh runes (the language for magic) were handed over for their part in the bargain. It is believed the orgoth worshiped an order of infernals. It is suspected thamar has had some dealings with them as well in negotiating 'the gift' for humans. Some fan theories suggest thamar sold out the elven gods as payment for the gift of magic for humans in order to combat the orgoth. This though, is speculation, her dealings with them isn't. An interesting point is that apparently the payment for the gift is due within a hundred years. If it's something to do with the infernals, expect them to make an appearance.
