Not sure if this is where this specific topic should go, so MODS feel free to move it

Link removed as this is, perhaps, a bad example.

What this person does is spray paint all his models dull grey so they look like they are bare plastic. If you read the description it even says "Metal". Not saying this person does it to be malicious but just make sure you inspect anything as much as your allowed to before you buy, and ALWAYS ask questions.

Another trick I have noticed a lot of sellers doing is turning damage away from the camera and only taking shots of the models where you can't see certain angles. If you see this again, ask questions. Nothing wrong with selling broken/damaged models, so long as the buyer is aware.

I'm not understanding the issue. Is it that they might have been painted before and the primer is covering what might be a thick paint job?

Yeah, nothing fishy going on here at all.
The models have obviously been given a coat of grey primer.
He has 100% positive feedback.
Looking through the seller's items he has not done this to all of his models at all.
This thread should be locked/removed or at the very least remove the link and talk more generally.

Plenty of people - including several manufacturers - prime their models grey before photographing them. The flat grey shows up the details better when photographed than bare metal.

Don't see the problem / trick. He says they're metal. They are metal. He says otherwise they are as pictured. Picture shows they're metal and not very well primed. So that's what I'd expect to receive if I bought them...

Does seem that the seller/vendor in the first post hasn't done anything wrong or made an attempt to fool would be purchasers in anyway that one can see.

I guess there might well be some discussion to be had with regards to "tricks" people use on e-bay/similar.

But people should please bear in mind that the person in the first post/link hasn't done anything wrong and is pretty blameless, so I'm gonna removed the link to his sale.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

No problem here. He makes it clear in the title of the lot that they're metal; Besides I use grey primer on most of my models.

my mistake then I have seen lots of people reprime models black, it looked to me like the seller was trying to cover up the fact that these models were used by spraying them grey which makes them look new.

More generally there is always the blurry photo of an Epic scale miniature with a roughly correct but particularly vague description that could leave one to believe that it might be 40k scale.

Also the fabulously unqualified Pro Painted tag.

A real primer related scam would be the folk selling FW recasts sprayed black.
You can usually tell because they haven't prepped what would be a very expensive kit, at all, and just doused it in primer.
