I'm going to start this out saying that I've seen a number of costuming threads here in the P&M blog section, so I hope I'm in the right place. With that out of the way, hello! I'm making a sergeant cosplay/ costume for the Cadian 122nd, the guard regiment famed for their action at Vogen. I chose that particular regiment because I always thought they looked neato, and because finding olive drab paint for the Cadian 8th was surprisingly difficult. Enough talking, let's have some pictures.

So far all I've got is the chainsword, but I plan on blowing through most of the armor tomorrow. Wish me luck.

That's a pretty good looking chainsword! About how much does it weigh?

Weighs about 5 pounds, being just foam and putty. Easy to lug about one-handed.

Update time! worked out the gauntlets pretty quickly, they're loosely based on Kasrkin gauntlets, but I'm rather lazy so it's not perfect. I think they'll do pretty nicely. They're made of foam matting

Biggo update! I got the BDU pants that go with the scheme, but not the jacket yet. I finished shaping the armor plates and getting the first layer of black onto them, and well as doing the same to the helmet. Here are some pics of my progress.

Once I'm done painting them up and getting the jacket, I'll be making my pistol and painting the chainsword. I'm deciding between a laspistol or a bolt pistol, I'd rather stay away from plasma for certain heat related reasons, any ideas on which I should pick are welcome.

The chainsword is cool, but very Space Marine sized!!!

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

wow....that looks stunning...
how did you make the helmet? that is no foam there, so on what did you base that?
and the armor looks amazing too, as does the chainsword...tho...i do like my own stuff/props more sturdy...i use wood for these parts...

Hey thanks guys! The chainsword is big, 4 feet in total, but I like it, has some heft to it that way. Plus, the ones on the models are stupidly oversized, being like almost 6 feet long if it's scaled out. My plan is to mainly carry it over my shoulder. The helmet is one of those plastic SWAT helmets with the nice interior, usually around 30 USD. I added foam strips to make it come down further around the front and back/sides, the same matting material used for the armor plates. The same foam is used in layers to make the doodads on the helmet to make it more accurate looking. I'm all about good looking cosplays from about 10 feet away, at picture distance, I'm no professional, I barely even measure things out. But things seem to be progressing nicely, began painting the helmet, should have pictures for those up by tomorrow.
Oh, and just for a reference pictures, here is a picture of what I am going for

Toodles for now

Big update this time, Dakka-ites. The Cadian 122nd paints their helmets the same camouflage pattern as their fatigues, so that's what I've been doing the last couple days, along with finishing up the flak vest. I think I got the camouflage down pretty well, but feel free to tell me what you think

That's all for now, this project should be wrapping up fairly soon. Hopefully my next update will be a photoshoot of the finished set

Well, here we are. All that is left to do is paint the chainsword and do up the pistol, but as it is, I have completed the costume. I didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would, and would highly recommend it as a project. It was really fun, and I hope I catch some of you at a convention sometime. Anyways, here are the pictures to prove it.

And as a final hurrah, some Saturday Night Fever
