Hi guys,

Getting back into the hobby (AGAIN!) and currently planning a new Space Marines list.

I picked up the new codex and I do like what I see, however as a Necron player I have very little Space Marine experience and would like some advice on the following...

Bike Squad / Attack Bike Squad / Land Speeders / Centurion Assault Squad ??

As you may have guessed, this is for my Demi-Companies, but I have never used either of the above units.

So, what do you recommend and what is just a waste of points?

I really appreciate the comments.

Thanks!

Centurion Assault Squad are funny. And not over use too. I would go with that!

But if we want to do power gaming, I would probably say Bike Squad.

Well, I'd consider Bike squadrons in the first place.

The bikes can really be a good filler unit. You can take 3, give em grav/combi grav, or melta/combi and use them as a highly mobile anti vehicle/mc/heavy infantry unit. If you magnitze the weapons, this can be a robust unit. Then if you have some extra points when making a list, toss another biker or two in there for extra wounds (and extra krak grenades if you use them to charge a vehicle to finish it off)

Bike squad is a solid pick, and if you take a HQ on a bike, they make a nice little escort for him.

Attack bike squads can work, but if you want to be rolling around, the regular squad is probably a better call.

I’m a big fan of land speeders, especially if you are just splashing a little FA into a list. I’d only take them if you have some other armor on the table though; if not someone is going to look at them funny with a LC and they are going to explode. TML/HB is my speeder of choice, singly or in pairs.

I actually like centurion assault squads. When they catch something IT WILL DIE

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes

Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Somebody in a post awhile back mentioned using Cent Assault squads in a drop pod and giving them all the TL meltaguns. And i had been running a command squad in a drop pod with 4 meltaguns but they would just die pretty easily after that. I think the assautl cents would be more survivable and also would be able to do something on the charge whereas the melta command squad would not.

However, back to the OP question. the bike squad is probably the strongest of the options you listed. However, maybe later on down the road you can look in to the assault cents in a drop pod.
