Good day everyone!
I asked last time about big scale game, now i'm interested in skirmish size game! I know about Infinity, and Necromunda. What really good tactical small scale/skirmish game exist out there? I love picking your mind Dakka, you always give me so many great idea!

bonus question: Easiest skirmish terrain to do/cheapest to buy? I've try making some modular Infinity terrain with cardboard, but I really suk lol.

Check out Frostgrave from Osprey Games. It's a simple enough rule set but it has plenty of depth and seems like it will be well supported into the future.

extra bonus question: Is there a game out there, that plays like a tactical RPG (similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, or Tactis Ogr or stuff like that)?

I'm offering up ideas for skirmish games with campaign rules.

If you want Wizards and their hired thugs dueling over treasure in mystical ruins with the occasional run-in with the wildlife, try Frostgrave.

If you want gangs in a steampunk, Victorian-horror influenced London, take a look at Empire of the Dead.

Want a game that can be either pre-gunpowder Historical or Fantasy that allows you to build your own statlines? Open Combat's new and improved version is coming out soon.

Deadzone is a sci-fi skirmish game set in a dying city as the various factions within vie for resources. The play area is made up of 3"x3" squares for movement and shooting distances.

If you've got GW models, check out either 1 Page Killteam or 1 Page Skirmish (Fantasy Killteam).

I guess Bloodbowl is a skirmish game that doesn't require a lot of terrain. And by extension, take a look at Guild Ball, which is Fantasy Medieval Football.

Malifaux is cheap and has great depth, but has a steep learning curve.

I've heard good things on Deadzone as a fairly simple nice game.

Mordheim was a classic.

Arena Rex is simple and has nice mechanics, but is expensive per model.

Salvage Mogual.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

One of the easiest things I've found was just to get some little compartment draws like these ones, if you shop around you should be able to find them cheap near you. You want the draws about big enough to fit a Rhino inside. Then you can just take all the draws out and turn them upside down, and you have instant buildings/bunkers which are really tough. You can paint them if you like, and use flat board to make bridges and ramps between them. And when you're not using them as terrain you can put them back in the cabinet and use them as draws again. Maybe store your other terrain stuff, or game bits in.

Oh wow! Thanks for the building trick lol. One of those thing right in front of you that you don't know about haha. And from the games I've checked, Frostgrave seems very interesting. I love the idea of campaign built in the game

Judge Dredd by warlord games is a great skirmish game. Lots of fun, great models, quick play, based on a d10 dice roll, lots of different missions put out by warlord games.
I tried the food riot mission and it was lots of fun. Trying to stop the fatties and punks from overtaking the food storages.

I can both recommend and dissuade you from Judge Dredd. It's a good game with a lot of fun an crazy stuff happening. However, you have to understand that it's not a serious tactical game. Things spiral out of control pretty quickly, and it's not a concise and accurately written rules set either. But if you get a group playing just to be silly, it's great fun.

OK, big disappointment, the rule for Frostgrave are no where to be found online. I like to read a bit before buying. Someone can point me toward good YouTube channel to see a game or where I could preview the rule before comiting to a buy? Thanks guys!!!

Excellent and easy to learn rule set for a small, modular squad game.

Exalted man. My favourite game of all time is certainly Final Fantasy Tactics. This game (Endless Fantasy Tactics) will bring back so much memories. I went ahead and bought the Beginner Box. Thanks so much!!!

Also in the fantasy skirmish line, Song of Blades and Heroes is rules-light and lets you play with pretty much anything you can think of. There's a kickstarter running right now for the latest version of the core rules (technically v5, I think) and a sourcebook for the various dwarven races (and some nifty official minis, which you don't need but are fun if you like stunties). PDF versions of the rules make the entry cost low.

Malifaux is a Victorian Horror/Steampunk/Wild West game. It's got innovative mechanics, and excellent balance. And it manages to appeal to both competitive and narrative driven players.

Theme-wise it's set after the Civil War in a pocket dimension that is the source of magic in the world. 7 different factions with seven different masters (big personalities that run crews, think Special Character or WM/H caster) struggle to control soulstone, the gems that power magic that can be recharged by death.

It's diceless, duels are resolved by a 54 card poker deck, with the ability to cheat cards from your hands to replace bad flips or power abilities. It's low cost to start, needing about 12 models maximum for some low cost horde or summoning crews, but usually about 8-9 models for most.

They also just released optional rules for Necromunda/Mordheim-esque campaigns. I'd recommend it highly.

I'd throw in another recommendation for Malifaux based on the OP.

Terrain is less important than Infinity. You still need it, but you don't need as much. It's also played on a 3x3 board, so less is needed in general to get a decent density. Generally 3-4 buildings and some fences and such will suffice.

It's also cheaper than Infinity. Generally you can get away with a crew box and a few additional solo models, and get a lot of play time out of it. While you select your crew after determining objectives, master have models that work well with them, which also tend to be what you get in the crew box. Grabbing some solo models to cover different types objectives will enhance your crew a lot more than a few solo models in other skirmish games.

The main issue is popularity. It's a grat game, but it just doesn't have the penetration that Infinity has managed recently, or what 40k or Warmahordes have. Finding pickup games might be a challenge if you mostly play at stores with random people.

Thanks for all the great suggestion, but my mind (and wallet) picked Endless Fantasy Tactics. Maybe some time I will have enough money to jump in another game, but now I'm going to dedicate a couple $$$ to EFT hehe.

I think that might be particular to AU; it seems to be going quite well in the US. Not as well as PP, certainly, but pretty solid.
