So I read a fluff piece on Armageddon where the orks use submarines to take down several hives, and I thought it would be delightful to make one as a fun project. I think I have a good idea in mind for using plastic card, card board and other things, along with my own custom tile for it, but what I really want to do is play with this. Now since there are no datasheets on ork submarines that are up to date, I have been thinking about a counts as for a fun, friendly game Some ideas:

Aquilla Strongpoint:

Probably a good idea to try this out as a count as, because it would be pretty stationary in the water and could be either a missile submarine (vortex) battery or have a giant gun on it (Macro cannon) But, my ownly problem is that it would probably be too overpowered with AV 15 and D weaponry.

Fortress of redemption:

The next best thing, but my only problem is the height. It would still have missiles and heavy bolters as defensive weapons and it wouldn't be that horrible to use. Again the only problem is the Height of it, because at the GW near my house they have one for terrain it is very tall.

Custom battle Fortress:

So aside from not really having the rules for this, and being a lot of points, It would be another good bet. I would only use it in the "Water" though, so it would just be sitting there or moving in the water. It could allow guys to jump out though, and that could be fun.

Old (House rule) Ork Submarine rules:

Would require some house rules but a very cool idea. I would need to house rule it so it starts on the table from turn one, but other than that it could work.

Home brewed rules:

I don't know of any submarine rules currently out there, so I may have to make my own. Just afraid I would make it too "good" for a game.

I think if you integrated it into a tile and used it as one of the fortifications would be best. What style of tables to you usually play on?

Since it is a GW a regular 6x4 sized table with tiles, and the one I would make would be 2x2

You could always make a campagine like terrain piece where you make a 4 feet or 6" by 1foot thick board edge with sea and a beach landing.

Run it as a Fortress of redemption with only the top half floating up. with a BIG tall command tower at the top (at least half the height. with missile racks in the middle. and the big sea las cannon on the side.

then have gang ways for the guys to pop out of.

If its all for the fun of it i dont think anyone would care.

I do like this idea a lot, as I can imagine orks on top shooting out over the water. My only qualm is that it wouldn't make much sense to have such a big command mast designed for a ship coming out of the water, but I suppose it's orky!

And I would love to do it as a campaign or a normandy type landing just for fun, maybe making the board a 4x4 sized one for some close up action.

And you pretty much hit the nail on the head for board style!

You also dont need to do the mast if you dont want to

just use the stats for the fortress to get a rough feel for points.

if it becomes to op or up then adjust it.

Alright, that sounds like a good idea =D now I just need to know how to build it...

I may post my proposed idea for home made rules later (at risk of getting banished to the home brewed section) or make a seperate forum post there.
