Subject: WH40K Assault Dice: Official GW Dice rolling app for 40K on iOS and Android
Compatible with the following devices: iPhones 5 to 6+ and iPad Air 1, iPad Mini 2 and iPod(6th gen) or newer. Will not run on anything older than that despite being able to purchase it on the App Store.
Android version coming soon.

What I'd like to see is a program that simulates probabilities and does that actual dice rolls.
Like what is the chance Special Character 1 will win vs Special Character 2. You type in all the stats and abilities to reroll etc etc etc then it rolls the dice to see who would win and in how many turns.
Lets say you could simulate 1000 battles between the 2 characters, it would roll the dice for 1000 battles and then put out a summary of who won, what turn had the most probably chance to kill.
This is a program that could be used to balance the game as you could do thousands of battle between units and calculate the outcome to better balance them.

Just search "assault dice" in the App Store. It was the second hit for me. Looks cool, but I wonder how customizable it will be.
Link now in the OP.
I've had a dabble with it, seems pretty customisable. You have a limit of 20 dice per screen. Shake your device or double tap the dice button and it jumbles the dice around. There's also a scatter dice screen **Edit: Nope- just gave the ipad screen a wipe lol. Can add more dice to scatter.

But what we really wanted was a whippy sticks simulator. "Realistic slight curve to measurements! Vibration function simulates spiking yourself with the pointy end! Measure not quite far enough for your maximum range!"

So...no? Half the fun of playing Orks is throwing fistfuls of dice. Having to simulate the rolling of a fraction of the dice I need seems like more effort than it's worth. That being said, it does look fairly solid.

You don't need to simulate it, it just needs to calculate the stats. You can do the stats by hand though it is a bit of a pain in the arse, it wouldn't be hard to write a program that calculates the statistics for most 40k situations.

On further tinkering... you have 20 dice per screen (which you can label on a unit by unit basis if you wanted).
My question is why would three companies (in addition to GW) work on this app(s)? What did they do that their logo needs to be on in the credits (in addition to the CC music attribution)?
My first guesses would be one provided the basic "engine" the game uses, one did the actual programming, and one did the testing and porting to iOS and eventually Android.

"Later in Fall 2015, Warhammer 40,000: Assault Dice will update to include in-app purchases, with bundles of dice and wallpapers for each faction found in the 41st Millennia. “You’ll be able to customize your dice and backgrounds based on the armies you play,” says Roger Walco. “Orks, Eldar, Chaos, Tau, Necron or the rest—you’ll be able to theme the app to match your army’s own aesthetic. The upcoming faction dice add a whole new level of detail and realism to the experience. ”

There's an android app called Mathhammer 40k that does this. I've never used it, but it's reasonably highly-rated on the play store. http://www.mathhammer40k.com/support
*edit* Oh, and in fact they've got some stuff working on the web page.

This is actually fairly cool. I'm surprised it's not in excess of £10, as well. I might actually get it if I actually had a smartphone. Pity about the low dice count, though; the main use for a thing like this would be to quickly count how many 5+s your 90 hormagaunt attacks got. Perhaps they'll increase it with a patch? If they try to sell "capacity expansions" for actual money, that'd be hilarious, painful, and not at all surprising.
The true reason to buy and use this is for the scatter dice.
Put the phone just next the models that you wanna hit with that blast template, roll the virtual scatter dice, see the the results with the helpfull line and follow it, no more arguments of in wich orientation the freakin thing scatter.

I wonder if the app can talk to the compass/GPS/location things in the phone to keep the scatter die pointing in the same direction, even if you pivot the phone. But I’ll agree that the scatter die feature is what makes this potentially worth it. Die rollers, along with “Hello, World” are the first programs people code. Not exactly high science.
Well, even if your opponent sneakily tries to change the result, it's more obvious they're trying it on with the app. Because you have to shake the device to get it to work, right? You can move the scatter die around on the screen as much as you like but you can't change the facing without shaking the device. It still points in the direction it landed on.

They have updated the app to allow for 200 dice on one screen, and also some added functionality like re-roll misses only. Seems like it might be worth buying now!

I should point out that the app caps the number of dice you have on screen, depending on what device you have. For instance, my iPad Air 1st gen running iOS9.0.2 can manage 120 dice per panel. I tried it at 200 (you have to go into the app settings and remove the dice cap) and it struggles a lot lol.
