Introducies
Good morning, good afternoon. I'm EoN, and welcome to my P&M blog.

Some background: I began playing 40k during the heady days of 3rd edition, but finances and life meant setting aside for quite some time. I resumed my addiction a couple of years ago, slowly piecing together the tattered remains of my Chaos Marines, re-painting, re-basing, and gradually turning them into something I can be halfway proud of. Most of my enjoyment in the hobby comes from kitbashing, converting, and painting, and the periodic game when I can get around to it. Granted, most of the pictures in this thread are in a perpetual state of WIP, since I have the approximate attention span of a narcoleptic grot. But, I hope you enjoy browsing through them.

Das Flüff
Spoiler:

The Flayed Legion is a savage and sadistic warband like no other. They appear seemingly at random, striking at worlds lightyears apart with no apparent regard for strategic value or glory in war. Their ships appear from the stars in blazing raids, stripping worlds of defenses as their cultists rise from within the planet's own populace. With the strength of their war machines and the savagery of their knives they descend on their prey like a murderer stalks a victim.

Their master, the enigmatic Flayed Lord, guides them with an unyielding fist, advancing his fleet in strange machinations and incalculable strategies. There as many legends about him as there are about his Legion, and all of them keep a wave of terror advancing ahead of his ships. They are no mere rogues, nor pirates collecting heads or trophies.

The are The Flayed Legion, and in their wake the stars will bleed.

The Wallpaper
An awesome wallpaper done on commission by Aaron Oborn, depicting the Flayed Lord standing over a defeated Space Wolves champion while the Legion drags another world into ruin.
Spoiler:

The Flayed Lord
The undisputed master of the Legion, The Flayed Lord thrives on mystery and terror in equal measure. A hundred dead worlds lie in his wake, and a thousand more are fixed within his gaze.
Spoiler:

Nagana, Dark Apostle
The haunting, bloodthirsty siren of the Legion is worshipped among the Legion's cults, and given awe and respect by its warriors. None know from whence she came, but her word is the word of the Flayed Lord.
Spoiler:

A'khel, Sorcerer
Author of a hundred tomes of madness, A'khel surrendered himself to Slaanesh in ages past, in exchange for horrid, seething visions of 'enlightenment' each night. These words, poured forth in screams and moans alike, are bound within his books in strange sigils and runes, kept locked away until he has need of their inspiration again.
Spoiler:

The Cultists
A million souls, seeded throughout the segmentum like a plague, each one lives in fear and dies in glory, all for the chance to be noticed, just once, by the indomitable Flayed Lord.
Spoiler:

The Vindicator
A thunderous blast shakes the ground, and daemonic voices whisper in the silence before the shell's impact.
Spoiler:

The Decimator
(Fluff pending. Open to suggestions. Project completion also pending)
Spoiler:

More to come later, still a lot on the shelves to clean up and photograph. Thanks for reading.

I found the plog! Yes!

Good to see your Chaos Space Marines finally getting their own thread here, hope to see more of them in the future!

I really like the Flayed Lord, you've done a great job at converting him, and the colour scheme is nice as well

But that wallpaper takes the cake though, it looks absolutely amazing

Agreed, Aaron really went the extra mile putting it all together, and matching the Flayed Lord to the miniature. That picture is now the centerpiece of my gaming room. Sadly, his DeviantArt page is deactivated, else I would be commissioning loads more from him.

Thanks, was a very long time before I found a head I was happy with for that one. But she never fails to grab attention on the tabletop, especially when surrounded by a horde of fanatical cultists.

Appreciate the support, everybody. The cultists were fun to do, mostly head swaps, arm swaps, and liberal green stuff. I've got a bunch of autogun cultists in my queue, which are substantially harder to convert into unique poses.

Should be fun times.

So, myriad of minor projects here and there, including the latest League of Extraordinary Riveters competition (see signature). But I'll go ahead and toss a couple of highlights here:

CSM Champion "The Bull"
This guy is being built to command the newest squad of CSM, who will occupy most of their time with charging headlong into enemy formations. Thus, I wanted him to look the part.
Spoiler:

The Flayed Lord mk2
Additionally, been working on a Terminator armor version of the Flayed Lord....unmasked! *dun dunnn*
Spoiler:

Reaver Titan
I've also occupied a great deal of time with cleaning and beginning construction on the As Yet To Be Named Reaver Titan. Previously, my largest piece was the Decimator, so this is going to be a long-standing challenge, which I'll update sporadically. Right now, focus is on making sure the pose looks decent, and drilling 2mm brass rod into essentially every joint possible. I don't want anything breaking.
Spoiler:

I also managed to stab myself pretty hard in the palm with a hobby knife, which was a great deal of fun. My wife, helpful as always when she finished laughing, recommended that I take the opportunity to bless the Reaver in the name of Khorne.
WARNING: There is, naturally, some biological red stuff in this picture.

Post-holiday update, nothing spectacular. Been working a good deal on the Titan in my spare time, have the legs measured, cut, pinned, and epoxied, so no going back now. Also cut down a bit on the two circular bases, glued them together, and been melding my typical rubble paste over the top to form a seamless surface.

Spoiler:

Additionally, been working on the 2nd generation of Flayed Legionnaires. Which doesn't sound fantastic, but it's the first time I've added CSM to the force since I took a hiatus from the hobby back in *mutters some year in the early 2000s*. The point is, I've grown a lot more comfortable with my painting since then, and it is with that in mind I present to you the initial (red/black/helmets only) Flayed Legionnaires mark 2!

Spoiler:

Fanfare and such.

Thanks for the feedback, I_F. The armor is a basecoat of black drybrushed in grey, and the armor trim is just Khorne Red (I'll highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet during the final stages).

Helmets are just basecoat black, layer grey, heavy drybrush white.

I like to keep life simple, I suppose.

EDIT: And thin the paints! For realz, yo.

I really like your fluff for these guys and their colour schemes suit them! Good job on the painting as well!

May I ask what you use to put on the bases once they're painted?

Made in de
Shrieking Traitor Sentinel Pilot

Thanks, Catfish

I won't take credit for the base filler, it's a variant on the recipe I found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/601567.page

My personal mix is some charcoal bits, eggshell, heavy sand, and the enough fine sand to balance all the other ingredients. Add cheap black acrylic paint and some PVA glue and you're in business.

As an aside, I also add in little resin or plastic pieces which get shaved off as I build models. It helps to create some large rubble pieces, as pictured here:
Spoiler:

I also add in a little bit of tiny feathers from my two death budgies. But that's mostly for luck

Minor update, since school and work are in full swing. Along with the the latest League of Extraordinary Riveters competition (subtle plug here), and the onset of the Crusade of Fury forum RP (subtle plug to be added once the story kicks off).

But I digress.

Work lately has been focused mainly on the Titan, because it is something I can do while reading assignments and writing papers. It's got a lot of real estate for drybrushing, and plenty of minor detail work for when I get bored of counting words in a paper.

The Still Unnamed But Totally Scary Titan

Spoiler:

Also, thanks to my wife's soldering skills (yes, she's cooler than me), the skull section (which detaches via magnets) has a brand new feature:

"Sir, we're really high up here, can we install some headlights to maybe see what we're shooting at?"
"Headlights!? You mean DEADLIGHTS!!" *wild guitar riff*

Appreciate it, EDC, and thanks for sticking with the thread/ramblings

Update on the Titan: not a huge paint update (mostly leg stuff), but I'm adding in more modifications that I thought I'd document. Because let's face it, this is likely to by the only Titan I ever do, barring some financial windfall (tax season around the corner...), so I might as well go all out.

Void Shield Generators
These little guys got magnetized and painted up over the weekend. Unimpressive productivity for the win. The magnets fit into the carapace, and there's clipped-off nail heads in the base of each generator. That way I've got a big surface area for the magnets to grab onto, and don't have to measure precisely lined-up magnet discs.
Spoiler:

Hips Don't Lie
I wanted to be able to disconnect the Titan at the waist for storage and transport, and also want to be able to rotate the torso to a few different positions. To that end, I've drilled down through the two moving pieces, and I'm thinking about implanting a ring of small magnets in each to 'lock' the torso into positions. In the meantime, a decent width of brass rod will work as a rotation centerpoint.
Spoiler:

The Flayed Lord mk2, featuring Angron Swag
As far as the new Flayed Lord, I've been working on his armor one piece at a time, still haven't decided on a final effect for the face. But enough on that. I dug up one of Angron's cloaks on eBay, and after extensive cutting, gluing, and green-stuffing, it finally fits on the Terminator armor in a semi-natural way.
Spoiler:

Random Bonus Model
So this guy turned up in a box I was unpacking, and was painted probably....nine years ago? I don't like to think about it. Back when I was still using charcoal as basing.

Titan Update

Work continues at a slow and steady pace on the Titan, but before I get into that, I'd like to give a serious shoutout to ForgeWorld for the level of detail and customization put into this thing, including but not limited to a set of variable-length pistons in the back of the knee:
Spoiler:

Also, after a couple days spent drilling and waiting for epoxy to dry, the waist joints have now been fully assembled, with a large brass rod serving as the fulcrum/coupling for the whole model. It now spins freely around the waist, doesn't fall off on its own, and can be taken off for storage. Win.
Spoiler:

The Flayed Lord Update
Like most of my HQ projects, this guy is giving me creative trouble. In this case, I don't feel like the previous head was really selling the 'flayed' part of the character. It looked like some serious wound material, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't quite the pants-crapping terror I imagine from someone who's had their flesh forcibly torn away. So we're trying another method, building up from a Warhammer skeleton skull:
Spoiler:

Any thoughts or input are more than welcome. Cheers,
EoN

Complimenting models or dissing my fluff? Hm. I'm joking, of course, thanks Kharne.

Land Raider Sigil
Fairly pleased with how this turned out. I printed off a tiny Flayed Legion sigil and glued it onto a piece of one of those cheap plastic For Sale signs. Spent a bit of very tediouswork cutting theimage out with an exacto knife, but it turned out pretty well.
Spoiler:

The Flayed Lord Lives!
After a *lot* of sculpting, re-sculpting, and generally being disgusted with myself, I've finally reached a Flayed Lord head version that I will consider complete. And there was much rejoicing. Yay.

Well, it's been about one semester since I updated this, which is not an accident. But, I was able to get a couple of things done in between sobbing into my midterms:

Reaver Titan Foot
Yes, just a foot, but I cannot fully express how incredibly complicated and frustrating each foot is. Easily the most maddening part of the model since having to pose the thing. In short, each of the four toe sections is an armor plate, two toe pistons, a shin piston, and a shin cradle for the aforementioned shin piston. Trying to paint all of that, then epoxy literally all of those joints together at the same time is like frantically trying to make that 5+ invul in front of a Tau gunline.

So yes, I'm excited about this fething foot.
Spoiler:

Chosen and Cypher
In less infuriating news, I get to go on a road trip in June and see a good gaming buddy of mine, so I'm bringing some reinforcements. In light of the hilariously awesome Cypher dataslate (and after picking up an old school pewter Cypher at a swap meet) I have decided that the Flayed Legion chosen shall be represented by Dark Angels Fallen...and about 10,000 magentized arms. The mostly-finished ones are pictured below, with the mostly finished Man Himself.
