Hey guys, in a week or two I am going to host a large game, at least 10,000 points per side. Looking for a fun idea of a game. I was thinking of either chaos attacking a forge world, or the imperium going to a planet that has started worshipping chaos gods. Need some ideas on either objectives, or a theme. Whatcha got?

Big games like this are good for parties and big groups. Try to keep objectives and special rules to a minimum because at 10k+ points per side, people are going to have a lot to manage already.

In fact, this is something you should talk with the other players about as well. When you get to a size of that level, you should take the time to make a story with your fellow players and figure out what kind of story you want to tell.

avoiding the lorax on Crion

Balancing any superhevies, knight ortitan class stuff being brought?

If one side has some, the other needs a counter.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Some objective ideas:
Forge World
- obviously things like factories and supply centers to provide ammo dumps (re-roll 1s or snap shots or twin-linked)
- a vehicle plant (repair HPs on nearby vehicles or produce new ones each turn for free)
- comm station or orbital array (re-roll reserves, orbital shooting attacks, better LD)
- pools of toxic waste (provides some benefit for the controller but also hurts nearby units on both sides)
- promethium storage centers (twin-linked flame weapons, explosive cover)
- STC storage facility (the main objective and therefore worth the most VP)

Imperial planet
- perverted church that is now being used by cultists to summon daemons (free daemon units for chaos, LD boost for Imperium)
- arbites center (free special weapons for the unit controlling it)
- local jail (provides free cultists for chaos, provides free penal legion for Imperium)
- big statue of the emperor (stubborn for nearby chaos units, fearless for nearby Imperium units)
- planetary governor's palace (main objective)

I agree with the others though. Talk with your opponents about what kind of story they want to create. The most important thing in these games is that everyone is involved and having fun. The old apoc and apoc reload books are great for giving cool ideas for battles.

I ran an apocalypse game at the local club with 11,000 per side. It was a lot of fun and I thoroughly recommend it. I made some terrain specifically for the battle- 12 feet of wall which the attackers had to conquer.

I would recommend taking a look at the apocalypse rules and scoring system, they provide a nice overview of how to plan and run a battle.

I balanced the number of superheavies in both armies (two each), but I still don't think this was enough. One side had ranged D weapons, while the other did not. I think this made it much easier to take out the other superheavies and a lot of the enemy army. I would say no ranged D for the games or make sure that it is evenly matched on each side.

If you are interested in the set up of the battle and how it went, check out http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/sabre-apocalypse-game-11000-points.html
