Now this is something I can get used to! 2+ cover save, the option to make a unit have to snap shoot at it. And it's 130pts sweet.

(inb4 lock)

It's alright, has some good defensive bits, but as a weapons platform it's lacking. I'd rather have 4 fusion shots on 2 crisis suits than a blast and a TL shot.

Same thing goes for it's "I can't believe it's not Missiles" pod.

Again, disappointing. Why can't we get friggin' railguns anymore? It's all ion weapons now. It's not bad, but it's just watering down the original flavor Tau actually had. What used to be mostly direct fire weapons are now being slowly overtaken with blast after blast after blast.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

On moon miranda.

Not a fan of more "non-armor" 2+ saves, especially ones that will get to play wound allocation gimmicks.

That said, the basic Melta version looks all in all ok. Kind of galling that the IG Devil Dog is actually more expensive despite being armed with a largely similar weapon, but that's another topic.

I think the S7 six-shot gun is going to be the popular iteration of this, still pretty solid at smacking around up to medium armor and forcing lots of infantry saves, and with a greater range.

The model looks cool, but really looks like a heavy assault Gundam-ey thing, not some stealthy "strike from the shadows" weapons system.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Sorry again Tyranids, I know you and your warriors are crying right now. Still its seems pretty balanced.

The fact that it's that large makes it completely stupid to be a stealth version of anything.

Couldn't this have gone in to the last Tau thread you started, or were you afraid of the usual suspects calling you out? (Inb4 Lock)

On topic, I like the rules for the Ghostkeel. It's got much the same vibe as the Stealkthsuits and feels like a heavier version of those. It's rules are balanced and are good enough to see play. On the subject of railguns, maybe Tau will get more access to them with other units (Fire Warriors with Rail Rifles) and improved versions of the railgun rules. Also, Ion weapons were unique to the Tau last time I checked.

You guys have failed to mention an important detail:

2x Drones are mandatory, the suit is LD9, and it lacks Fearless.

I foresee shenanigans

Possibly, but a 2+ cover save at 12" away makes that much easier said than done.

A few threads ago you got angry at people questioning you and called us all goobs. Multiple times.

Does this model have stats and point costs yet?

Most psychic tricks give Ignore Cover. And the ECM doesn't work in the Psychic phase!

Incidentally, I don't think the drones themselves get anything except Stealth.

It's definitely vulnerable

Seems kinda meh, rather just take crisis suits with fusion blasters or a riptide. With the ion weapon I would rather have an Ion Hammerhead parked in some ruins or let my broadsides spam their Str 7 AP4 for cheaper. Maybe GW will nerf the older stuff to push the sales of the new expensive giant robots they seem to love to throw at us.

Reread the rule for the stealth drones. The drones already have Stealth and gain Shrouded as a result. Don't forget that Stealth and Shrouded are USRs anyways.

Tau are overpowered broken gak. They need serious neefing cause they are broken and too good.

Heh

Figured I'd start that now....... Seeing as that's the trend of posts when a new unit/army comes out.

On the 130 ppm it has for its options does that count for the drones too?

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Don't start jumping the gun now! The codex spoilers aren't even out yet!
Oberron wrote:On the 130 ppm it has for its options does that count for the drones too?

Yes. The 130 points buys the unit, which consists of the Ghostkeel and two drones. Further Ghostkeels and Drones can be added to the unit in 130 point increments.

I'm not seeing Infiltrate or Outflank in the Special Rules

I think I'll just stick to the XV15's and 25's if the final version doesn't have them

This seems medicore at best. Its shooting sucks and is short ranged so you have to get close to do anything at which case you will probably be assaulted or are going to be getting shot at from within 12".

Actually, for those points it's pretty good. It's cheap, deceptively durable, fast, and puts out a solid number of Str 7 shots. I don't think it will be the new cheese, but I think Tau players will run some.

If this is the new release and GW are expecting to sell this with these rules, then the only way to manage it is to make the rest of tau utter crap. This is a mediocre MC at best.

Only thing it is good at is to act as anti-graviton.

But invisible knights make total sense right?....

I think this thing is awesome. And the way its worded a unit of 3 can use counter measures 3 times which is ballin.

Pretty much all tau units are meh in a vacuum. The codex has always relied on synergy with other units it make it work. 3 Ghostkeel backed up by some makerlights will wreck a super heavy faster than a Stormsurge (possibly even a wraithknight) but it has to get in close. Double melta per suit with JSJ to avoid counter assaults and backed up by another unit of Ghostkeel, Riptides or Crisis for supporting fire would work great. Tactics>models in a vacuum.

When breaking it down honestly I'm a big fan of these suits, regardless of the points cost I still see myself getting 9 of them just so I can have them in my collection! At a glance though the two best ways for running these guys seem to be:

-Deep Striking Fusion: Equipped with the Fusion Collider and twin-linked Fusion Blaster the team of these guys could do some serious damage to armor. Have them deep strike in, hit a target and then mitigate the damage they received thanks to their ability to make the unit targeting them Snapfire once a game. This combined with their stealth capability really give us a more survivable deep striking fusion threat.

-Cyclic Ion Raker: Love this gun because you can never have enough strength 7 firepower and the potential to have a large blast is a nice touch as well. Equip this with a burst cannon or leave it with a flamer for Overwatch and sit back at a relatively safe distance with a great cover save pumping potent firepower downfield.

Now I aa not saying that regular crisis suits can't do the same thing for much cheaper because they can, however these are two of the best ways I personally can see you running these guys. Now I have a rules conundrum for you guys, in the description it states the following in regards to the "Holophoton Countermeasures". It states:

"Once per battle in the enemys shooting phase a model equipped with Hophoton Countermeasures can disrupt the targeting systems used by one enemy unit that is targeting it or the unit it belongs to. Declare the unit will use the Hophoton Countermeasures after the enemy unit has chosen it as a target but before any rolls are made. The enemy unit can only make Snap Shots in that shooting phase."

Now does this mean that each model in the unit can do this once per game? Or as a unit can they only do it once per game?

Ah yeah I guess that Stealth would conferred (pending how the Fire Team rule works). The drones don't seem to have it base though, which may be interesting if other models can take them too

Or maybe they are trying to make things, dare I say, balanced?

The horror! a non-OP non-trash new released model!
Looking at last tau release, everything either OP or utter trash. nothing right. this time? it seems like they are doing a fine job. and people complain now that its too balanced.

I knew this would cause contention. The operative sentence here is "Once per battle in the enemys shooting phase a model equipped with Hophoton Countermeasures can disrupt the targeting systems used by one enemy unit that is targeting it or the unit it belongs to.". If a unit contains 3 Ghostkeel models thats 3 countermeasures. It seems pretty clear to me.
