I noticed that I no longer enjoy watching battle reports as a few years ago. When I got back into 40k I used to watch a lot of battle reports in order to get the feel for the game / tactics again. It was a more realistic alternative to the White Dwarf articles. Those battles where played with real armies of real players instead of the GW studio armies that usually displayed all the units or just the new toys. The quality of the battle reports has has made huge steps forward in since then. I love the quality of the big sites / channels. They quality has never been so high as now, they are a sharp contrast to the semi stop motion videos of the past and I have a lot of respect for the effort and time the makers put into them.
But I feel that the lists lost their sharp edges of horrible mismatches and nasty units / lists. Making them still fun to watch but kinda useless to learn anything new about the game or to spot the weaknesses of the new hot units or tricks.

There are still some regular gamers with who put their battles online but the modern high quality battle reports spoiled them for me. Making it really hard to watch battle reports with poor camera work, editing, a horrible choice of music or other strange and distracting quirks.

Does anyone know of battle reports with real lists of even tournament lists but who are still of a decent quality ?

Ps. This is not an attempt to attack the heroes who dedicate a large portion of their lives to make beautiful battle reports for us. It is just an inquiry if there is something else I would likely enjoy to watch.

Eh, MWG is definitely up and down. Some lists are good awful, but every now and again they bring some competitive stuff.

Check out FrontLineGaming, they usually bring tough lists, but their videos can suffer quality wise.

I would still say miniwargaming. As reilly said it can be up and down in terms of list quality, but they're still one of the most enjoyable. I would also recommend striking scorpion on YouTube

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I find MWG to be terrible at batte reports 90% of the video is just them rolling dice.

Tabletop Tactics on YouTube has both a high production value, and his batreps tend to feature competetive lists. The guy who creates the content is also happy to provide feedback on lists that people send to him. Check 'em out.

I actually like MWG for this. I enjoy seeing the dice rolls during pivotal parts of the game, where it comes down to a charge or a save. I actually can't stand the battle reports where they just show where models ended up and then fade to black and show the next movement or shooting phase. It makes for such a passive experience where I feel I would be better off reading it when done in that style.

Now, I do agree MWG does have some bad videos where the guest has a terrible list or terrible models or their own lists are nothing great (Looking at Leland and his ad mech), however, I still watch them because their fun and get me excited about rolling dice.

Nearly 3k+ points of Slaanesh (AoS)
2500 points of Ironjawz
Too many points of Space Marines.

Indeed. Those BRs with only "End of Turn X" are pretty meh. MWG BR style let you even cheer for specific rolls

I don't like BRs with too much extra stuff, like Striking Scorpion's music and prologue. I want to see the game itself, not omnious stuff that takes time. Oh, and BRs with always the same tone, to the point you start closing your eyes, sleepy...

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion & X-Wing: CIS / WWX: Union

@zoggy,
Very nice way to start a thread. I like to do BRs. Could you list what is most important to you?

Competitive lists?
Painted armies?
Beautiful Terrain?
Fluffy stories?

I honestly think Batreps without the dice rolls are less enjoyable. It brings suspension to the video instead of a generic turn recap.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

Yeah, there are not too many batreps that focus on competitive lists. For that matter, there are not too many batreps that focus on actual games played at tournaments. Perhaps the answer is to create batreps at tournaments?

Quality of the battle report itself. Decent camera work, I like to have an overview instead of miniature point of views, no shaking, extreme vast moving or strange edits.
No distracting music and at least one player who is not annoying. Higher quality is ok but it should at least meet these conditions. If they are not met the battle reports annoys too much to have fun watching it.

I love miniwargaming but I'm really looking for some more punch in their lists so the lists and players should bring some. If they don't I could just stick to watching miniwargaming .They also don't have to be all top tier tournament lists vs top tier that would be interesting for a few battles but would also get old really fast since there are only ~10 lists out there. The power of the lists should be at least something that a player would bring at a gaming night if he knew he would not have to hold back against his opponent. So they don't have to go screamer star, but If he wanted to field multiple wraith knights in his lists he should be able to.

I don't care at all for fluffy stories at all. They can be fun but i'm really just watching them to see how the new stuff and tactics work on the table. I'm not watching them to see the usual lists battle out predictive battles in some guys campaign.
But I do care about unusual fluffy lists especially if they look great such as tallarn army on a desert map fighting an other beautiful army. This is not what I'm looking for but I would love to watch it from time to time anyway.

Painting and terrain. I love good painted armies and terrain if it is an option: yes please. But a normal gaming night with an almost painted army and some ok ish terrain would be good enough if the rest was really worth it.
