It looks to be on the level of Harlequins Codex bad.

Every single new model they released has balanced rules and the new breacher has really medicore to terrible rules. Unfortunately being a balanced faction in 40k means you'll get curbstomped by OP marines that get hundreds of points worth of free vehicles.

Is this the end of an era for competitive Tau?

Why don't we wait until the codex actually drops before we start bitching about it? I mean, seriously, all everyone does is find stuff to complain about every time a new 'dex comes out (usually before it actually does).

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

Let's not forget that most of the power of 7th edition codices is in the formations, not necessarily the units themselves. Tau will be a pretty good army when you see the formation that lets you take 500 points of free crisis suits in a 1000 point game.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

why would we be angry that a codex is balanced. Most armies are equal if you don't min max and try to play them in a manor that maxes the background. How bought we end win at all cost.

Every codex has one stand out build in it atm, and a few units that really carry the dex, DA have ravenwing, SM's have the battle company, Necrons have the Decurion etc etc Tau just needs one of those type of formations, mix it with a Riptide or 2, and I think itll be fine...
