Been playing 40k for almost a year and looking for something a little more balanced. Hope I can find that here with out to much having to buy new books/rules every year or so.

Anyways I like all 4 factions in the two player battle boxes going to start with one of them so my son and i can play at home as well. which one do you like out of the two starter boxes?

Some guys at my FLGS are going to demo a few games with me so i'm sure this will help me make up my mind but wanted to ask others here about how balanced and over all happy you are with this war game compared to others also what two player battle box would you choose if starting fresh.

I love the look of the models hope the game is solid/balanced. Thanks.

Hi, you'll be told a lot that one of the most attractive parts to this game that it is very balanced... and it is!

However, when you first start (especially if you try Warmachine Vs Hordes) then you'll probably disagree, I did.

This is because of the learning curve involved, it's going to take time for you to get to know the system and how things work.

Like you I came from 40k and that was about 4 or 5 years ago (when 40k was actually quite good ) and I struggled with the system at first but after a good few games you'll absolutely love it!

As for which boxset, couple of things to keep in mind. The Focus and Fury system work slightly different and you may prefer one to the other. Try them both out first if you can. You say you like all the models so you may want to look into playstyles that will suit you.

There are plenty of experts on here to give you advise on how each faction plays and also check out http://battlecollege.org/space/menu

You'll probably end up with both systems and muliple factions anyway!

Hope this helps!

Well popular opinion is that the models in the warmachine ones are not the best that they could be. Manowar aren't one of khadors good units. And cineratorssuffer from the fact that bastions are better and are the same points. If you like Protectorate of Menoth, they are quite easy to convert (so I've been told.)

Every since I made the switch from 40k to WMH I have been loving the game. It's a well balanced game and PP really cares about the game.

In terms of future use the Hordes factions offer more. In general you won't see destroyers or Man o Wars played much on the Khador side and in Menoth the Cinerators and Crusader don't get much table time.
In the Hordes set Circle doesn't use an argus much and a winter argus is unusual (but not rare) to use. The feral is a good beast overall and can be magnetized to up its utility. Legion- 4 shredders is a bit much and the warspears do see play when you add the leader (UA) but you have to buy him seperately (to be honest the skinwalkers are the same way). The carnivian can also be magnetized for future utilty.

You will probably move on from any of the base casters but none of them are poor choices to use.

Go with whichever one appeals to you more. Looks? Fluff? Playstyle?
