Howdy all,

I've always felt that 28 mm is too big a scale for 40k/30k and that playing on that scale on a 4 ft table just feels cramped. 15mm would allow for suitably large battles without the loss of detail that can happen at 6 mm scale (Epic). I'm starting off by scratch building the vehicles and am then going to mold and cast them in resin.
I've got a lot of inspiration from Dan at Gunners Wargaming. He's done some really cool stuff if you are interested and want to check it out: http://gunnerswargamming.blogspot.com.au/search/label/15mm%2040K

Starting off, here's the first model, a 15mm scale rhino.

Start off by cutting out the side from card and using beads to make the running gear and use as spacers:

Add the next layer of card to the side:

Start to put the tracks on:

Further detail the tracks and add the door:

Add further detail, smoke stacks, and the running boards.

Start work on the chassis:

Add the front plate and top hatch:

Cupola and bolters:

Assembled!

Model to show scale:

Once the chassis is cast up, I can start work on the other rhino derivatives, such as the predator, whirlwind, ect.
Land Raider next

Right, just an update. Been working on the land raider. Not that happy with the las cannons, so they will probably get tore off and redone, and I need to add more track bogies, as the tracks are floating a bit right now.

Anyway, less talk, more pics.

Ok all, next update.

Been working on the land raider again, I scrapped the original and started again. Made smaller tracks this time and used additional track bogies. Just working on the lascannons now.

As usual I got distracted and started a new project . Here's the start of a 15mm scale warhound titan

Great idea for a project. The Rhino and Warhound look really good so far.

How are you going to handle the troops?

I'm going to be converting up some of Khurasan Miniatures Humans in mid-tech power armour (http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/end300.jpg)

I'll need to bulk out the shoulder pads, make bolters for them, and add a backpack to each of them, but I think it should be easy enough. I'm still trying to track down models for use as terminators though.

Howdy all,

The land raider is done! Glad this one is over, those tracks were a right pain

Dimensions for those interested:

Adding plasticard rod to use as a spacer and as bogies:

Start adding the layers of detail:

Lascannons!

Starting work on the hull, here's the side profile:

Adding the weird grill thing from the proteus:

Done!

The infantry just arrived and I thought I'd post a quick update of my progress so far.

The base model:

I'm now working to convert it to Mk2/3 Power armour. I've done the head and backpack and am now working on the shoulder pads and bolter.

Apologies about the picture quality, my camera is having trouble capturing all the detail.

@Ruglud Thanks man! I'm still learning as I go so hopefully I'll be making higher quality stuff in the future.

So here he is, the first finished infantryman;

Heres a comparison to the original model;

I'm finding the sculpting a bit challenging, but I'm getting there.

I know at least one place on Shapeways sell 15mm stuff suitable for heresy marines:

They even have a terminator squad

I've looked at them before, but the problem is that they are only available in the the "strong white" material, which means that there is a restriction on resolution and the finish is really grainy. I also quite like the idea of making my own rather than something off the shelf.

Next update. The marines are finished!

Sorry about the image quality, my white putty on the pale metal, with a white background makes it a bit difficult to photograph!
