So I'm looking to expend my beloved dark eldar at some point, and I really like the idea of adding a Court of the Archon unit and a grotesquerie formation to my forces. While I like all of these GW models just fine, they're all expensive for the numbers I want them in and also rather mono-pose. Any suggestions for alternatives?

I have no idea what to use as Sslyth, but I probably have splinter rifles to spare if I can find an appropriately snakey guy. Ideally, I'd like about 4 of these guys.

Wyches seem like they'd work as Lhameans, but gladiator gear lacks the courtly aesthetic of the lhamean model.

I hear people have used blight knights to good effect for grotesques, but I'd like to end up with about 10 of them, so alternatives are appreciated.

Lhameans:
This one is pretty good

Also a good option

Sslyth, I have no ideas from the GW range. Maybe take a Tyranid Ravener body and mate it with a Dark Eldar torso?

Grotesques
Blight Kings are an option I have never heard of, but I can see it. Ogre Kingdoms' Ogre kits would also not be a bad option.

What's left of Cadia

For the Lhamean look into the Vampire Counts range, many of them are still kinda monopose, but they have that courtly aspect you're looking for I feel.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Mechanicum John used Skaven Rat Ogres for his conversions. Take a look:

You can also look at Vampire Count Varghaists:

I've also seen Ogre Kingdoms kits made into Grotesques. Just use the talos parts, extra masks to make them.

For Grots I have four of the Island of Blood rat ogres and just stuck Talos masks on. Cost me a tenner for four on Ebay about a year ago but it might have gone up a bit since then as there's no more IoB. I have another four using some WM models and more extensive use of Talos parts copying this guy http://eyeoferror.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/dark-eldar-grotesque-conversions.html
For Lhamaens I use a WM Witch Coven http://privateerpress.com/files/products/34035_WitchCovenofGarlghastandtheEgregore_WEB.jpg
I also double them as Medusae. Got them for £9 new in metal I think.

Not sure on the Sslyth, I've not seen any good alternative snakemen models for a good price.

Great suggestions, guys! Regarding the grotesques specifically, do you have any suggestions for a hobbyist on a budget? I've already invested in a few Reaper minis (trolls, bug bears, etc.). I bought them cheap and thought it would be relatively easy to slap some spare dark eldar-y bits onto them, but the bits just don't fit them as well as I'd hoped.

Any super cheap minis out there I could cannibalize for bits? If not, I'll just invest in some fantasy minis to butcher.

The great thing about Grotesques is that they are flesh crafted from all sorts of species; you can represent this in game by finding models that will fit on the 40 mm bases, i.e. AoS ogres (6 for $40), AoS crpytfiends, or 40k Tyranid Warriors or AM Bullgryns. Just add Talos/Cronos masks, weapons and other spike bits for extra flair!
