Me and a friend were thinking about getting into the Great War game but were wondering if it was any good. We were thinking about playing as the French and Germans. So is the game worth playing? Also with team Yankee coming do we know when new things will come out for Great War?

Great War just had it's second release. The book, the US, and the French, were the last thing Battlefront released. The initial release was a WI supplement, and the British and Germans, all released last year.

As for when new things will come out - can't say for certain. Battlefront has more or less wrapped up Late War WW2 at this point. More campaign books might be released, but the figures are pretty much done. So their schedule is no doubt going to be very different going forward. Early War's initial release finished with Barbarossa. BF hasn't said what it plans to do with it going forward. And Mid-War is stalled until BF can figure out how it wants to handle the fixes in Eastern Front and Africa that everyone agrees are needed (the fixes are tied to the shift to V3). So Battlefront's traditional areas are all more or less not doing much at the moment.

That leaves the non-traditional areas. Vietnam, Arab-Israeli Wars, Great War, and Team Yankee are all out (or will be very shortly in the case of the last item). The first Pacific release is also supposed to be happening soon (it was supposed to start in December, but will probably take place the month after Team Yankee finishes its first wave of releases). Vietnam and Great War both had releases this year. And based on things I've heard, I'm pretty confident that BF is planning the Team Yankee British and German initial releases in the first half of next year.

So that's what we know.

Traditionally, around February or so, Battlefront will release a "state of the game" message that provides information regarding the planned releases for the upcoming year. If Battlefront has a "Great War" release planned for next year (the Russians and Austro-Hungarians, for instance), then we'll first hear about it there. Given the delays to Team Yankee, we might see it before the Pacific releases begins. We'll definitely see it before the Pacific release finishes.

The models look nice, I'm hoping at some point to get enough of them painted to actually try and play it..

Hopefully it will be kept going, there is a lot more to WW1 than the trenches and late tank actions.

I really enjoy FoW GW moreso than the other FoW eras. Also check out the FoW1918 yahoo group if you want some of the more obscure stuff that BF hasn't covered, as well as early war lists.
