right, but he did 1 layer of grey and added a white edge highlight. thats not "working your way up to white" - thats just "forget about white, just paint them grey"

Pro painting right there.

I'm pumped for these. I find these painting tutorials very useful and am excited they're doing a new one everyday! Never would have thought to start painting white with grey - but then I am relatively inexperienced in painting - so I found this first video useful. A quick, easy technique I'm sure I'll find a use for later.

That's more or less how I paint white; Ulthuan Grey is a great color to highlight up. Actually painting models straight up white means you don't get to highlight at all, and Ulthuan Grey is close enough. Personally I like using a blue wash instead of a brown one, but that's a perfectly functional tutorial to get a good looking white.

Who's this? Where's the manchildboy we're used to?!!!!
Really glad they're doing this wee tuts in the run up to Christmas - do hope they throw in some ....more advanced stuff too though. Anyone here send in an e-mail with suggestions?
I sent one asking them to show some alternative skin recipes for Orks. I painted loads of boys up using the current video tutorial for Ork skin but I've come to really loathe the colour Warboss Green or whatever it's called.
I specifically asked for a darker more menacing skin tone that could be used for some battle-hardened, grizzled Nobs.
I'm not holding my breath for this one, though!

Probably taking the week off after filming that 90-minute Archaon video! I'm glad to see another friendly face doing a painting tutorial for Warhammer TV though; with two painters filming, perhaps we can expect to see more frequent painting tutorials even after the Advent calendar?
Automatically Appended Next Post: I wouldn't hold my breath for more advanced techniques to be featured in these tutorials though. I don't think the Citadel system lends itself to advanced techniques - it's just "basecoat, shade, highlight" then move on to the next color. These videos seem more about showing you which Citadel paints to use and where/how to apply them to achieve results similar to the studio models.
I, for one, am totally okay with that I like using the Citadel paints and following the studio color schemes, and since I don't have a collection of old White Dwarf magazines, these Youtube videos are the best source for tutorials for me.

A pretty poor guide really, the armour looks grey in the end, not white. Need a lot more contrast with more than just a few token white edge highlights.

A girl that likes to paint miniatures? I wonder if she's married...
Seriously, both of these tutorials are very good for what they are. They are aimed at beginners, and so they keep the paint jobs from being overwhelmingly complex. I'm reminded of the KISS principle of engineering: Keep It Simple, Stupid! Good advice for many budding painters out there.

Not sure why GW does that to be honest. I got that from the WNT post on GW NZ. I've already had to edit the link for the white power armour video cause they fiddled with it.

Yeah - I've had the same problem. Don't show up on YouTube after video 3 and if I watch through here - just a black screen. Can watch them on my ipad though
They have them unlisted initially for some reason. They seem to make them listed from anywhere between when they go up on the UKGW news feed or sometime the day after.
There are exceptions, though. The 2nd one I believe never was unlisted.
