Im primarily a painter first and then a gamer second, I am heavily invested in Warhammer but with the release of Age of Sigmar I am unloading alot of stuff and looking to get into Warmahordes. I really enjoy Fantasy and the Troll models really appeal to me. I have been eyeing the Mountain King for years and saw they just released another!! The prices are so much better than the new stuff GW is releasing so my first purchase is going to be the Mountain King.

Do people use Gargantuan's often? Can one person play with one while the other doesnt?

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

Yes you can. Theyre normal models. Some casters give you benefits if you use them(Troll Jesus) and some don't.

Yeah, plus Gargossols ( Colossals and Gargantuans) aren't that much more powerful than regular war beasts, being equal in power to two heavies. And costing twice as much.

Great! I think im going to buy the All in One army box as well as the Mountain king. I tend to field what I enjoy painting. So this is exiting.

Can you still get the all in one box? Most of them are sold out everywhere here.

Well I thought I could, there is one in the Czech Republic on ebay.. so looks like I am going to have to piece out an army after all. There is a Circle Orboros on Ebay in the states though

Yeah the Circle one is the only (hordes) one I can still get here too. They sold out really quick for the most part. I considered the Troll one too, and Legion.

Yeah they are quite hard to find now, which is a shame because most of them were pretty good.

It's worth adding, there was an update for the Mountain Kings recently, giving them Assault (the ability to make a ranged attack while charging), so it's worth downloading the errata document. Models that work especially well with gargantuans include:

Captain Gunnbjorn (warlock): His Guided Fire spell makes the ranged attacks of the Kings much more effective, and he can drop a Rock Wall in front of them to blunt counter-attacks.

Doomshaper, Shaman of the Gnarls, and Doomshaper, Dire Prophet (aka, Doomy1 and Doomy3, warlocks): Both of these have good accuracy boosters for the Kings, and feats that can make it very hard to kill it in one round, allowing it to heal and take revenge. Oh, and Doomy3's theme force makes them both 2pts cheaper.

Krielstone Bearer (unit): This is the backbone of many Troll lists, and for good reason. The armour boost is proportionately better for big tough targets like the Kings.

Dhunian Knot (unit): The upcoming unit of shamans can help make sure you don't lose control of your expensive model to a frenzy, and also use their Puppetmaster ability to give an accuracy bonus on an important attack.

Janissa Stonetide (solo): Like Gunnbjorn, she can put walls whenever you need them, making your gargantuans hard to attack for enemies without Reach.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich."

Awesome, thank you. I just started ordering a few models off ebay, I got the kreilstone group and it came with pMadrak I think. Also ordered a few larger trolls and a Janissa cuss I read she does well with Earthborn Dire Trolls. I read some on Doomy but honestly all the variations of warlocks are confusing. I read doomy is one of the better warlocks for beasts. Id rather run larger single trolls than small 5-10man infantry units. I got a Mulg! also because I read it does great with doomy, I just dont know which one -.-

I really like the doomy3 model, but could I not buy him and call him doomy1 or doomy2 and OK it with my opponent.

There's a couple of problems. First, you'll have the wrong stat cards if you don't also buy the version of Doomshaper that you'd want to playing as. Second, official event rules say that you can't do that so you might run into resistance.

The Earthborns gain an armour boost when they're near a wall or obstruction. Janissa can put walls wherever she wants. They can also give the ability to other friendly models--it's an expensive package, but can make a gargantuan very hard to kill at Armour 23 (unless the enemy can remove animi with a solo such as Eiryss, or a spell such as Purification).

Mulg is fantastic with anyone--generally, whatever you point him at will die, especially if he benefits from a damage buff, such as that from the Mauler, Pyre Troll, or the Stone Scribe Elder (the Krielstone UA). What makes him very dangerous is Doomshaper's Goad ability, where you can crash him into the front line, kill things, and then pinball through the enemy army to a warcaster or heavy jack / beast that your opponent thought was safe. It's tricky to pull off, needing a good eye for distance and the ability to calculate the odds of killing everything you need to, but the look on their face when it works will be worth it.

Lastly, if you want to run lots of beasts, another option is Calandra Truthsayer. Her ability to remove fury from several beasts, and tinker with the dice rolls of models in her control area can let her run a large battlegroup, and one of the high-tier Troll forces is her "Evolutionary Elementalism" theme (originally in No Quarter, collected in the "Forces of Distinction" book), where she takes loads and loads of light beasts--though it will require a lot of models you may not have many other uses for, so I suggest trying it out with proxies first.

The thing to remember about Trolls is that they are very much a synergy faction. By themselves, a lot of their options look quite mediocre when compared to what other factions can do. But when the machine starts clicking, and you add +2 attack from Madrak's Carnage spell, +2 Armour from the Krielstone and +2 Damage from the Pyre Troll, it can turn into "where did that warjack go?".

Oh, and on proxies, competitive events do have quite strict rules about models being what they represent, but it will usually be okay in a friendly game if you ask your opponent beforehand. You can use the War Room app to replace the cards, or order individual cards from the PP web store.

Hope that helps, and if you post some reports of your games here or in the PP forums, you should get some advice on how to improve.

I actually just discovered another card replacement:

If you download the files from their forum, you have complete card text for free.

If it does indeed give you the entire card that app is a violation of copyright. And as such it would be against the rules to post it on this forum.
