And now for something completely different

it's a Gorax from Hordes, I wanted to see how I did with a fantasy style model and I must say I don't mind this not armour rage beast! lots of skin and the main body is nicely cast the head had some issues but I tried to hide them and it turned out o.k I had Panthra from Thundercats in mind as well as Oscar my black Lab so it's not how they're normally painted (from what I can see)

It's like painting ADHD and there is only so much amazing painting I can take in for a month, first it was LittleH's admech baby stroller and chaos warriors? next was completed old sculpts (probably from LoTR but with all the amazing that's been posted I blame you for me not being able to place it)

Follow that up with Bianca (also I googled that at work... thank you again) who blows the water out of the pool when I was just getting settled. Now you post this hordes model...

I want it to stop, but I don't want it to stop.

Impressive work on the big beastie. The bloody knuckles are a nice touch.

Great work on the bog guy. I really like the different tonal qualities on his skin, as well as the nice touched on his knuckles. It looks a treat.

Cracking stuff! That model is everything I hate about Warmahordes (top heavy, cartoony face, massive hands and arms, weird pose) but under your brush it still looks superb!

Oh Knightley! stop it.........no...don't stop it thanks mate appreciate the kindness, not quite as chuffed you googled Bianca at work you fool I've got another Hordes mini and two termies left for LittleH, so you may see more progress tomorrow, not sure about finished models but I'll try!

Hey Az, thank you very much! it was the skin or rather large expanse of skin that drew me to that one, I wanted to do some blending and see how I went and i'm glad your little package arrived safely, hope you like them, you've had a rough time lately and just wanted you to know others are thinking of you

O.K I suppose then that i've done a good thing? taken a crappy model and made it somewhat decent to look at with an appraising eye? was my first foray into Hordes models and I can certainly see your grievances with the sculpt it is rather top heavy and certainly cartoony, but I wanted to try and de cartoon it a little bit with the colours and while it's still bright I hope you can bear seeing a few more

Yeah, I meant no offence, your paintjob is up to scratch as usual (by which I mean stunning!), I just really don't get on with the WMH aesthetic. The skin and metal work on that model looks spectacular, and I definitely look forward to seeing you take on some more... That sculpt kind of has everything I don't like, I get a feeling plenty of the others are a little more to my taste.

I took no offense Para don't worry mate! I get a kick out of taking a usually awkward model or face and seeing if I can at least get it to look half decent!

Thanks mate - I hope you won't be offended if I do a little bit of touching up to make them fit in with the other Minotaurs I have been working on? Just little touches, very much in line with when I redo bits of my own older models while trying to leave the "heart" of the original paintjob plain to see. And of course, 32mm bases.

More w.i.p today on the second Hordes model, a Rotterhorn griffon, not heaps done but I just wanted to show you the model and what style i'm attempting with it

and Az, mate you can touch them up however you like, they are yours now, just put them to good use

now back to the flying humanoid eagle cat thing......

I did some more work on the Griffon and the Termies today I know where I'm heading with the Hordes model and am well into the swing of him I want to try and do each feather separately when i get to the wings which will be fun!






did a wee bit on the last two guys for LittleH red armour is done and details to follow!

Really nice work on those Dark Angels, and the Hordes Eagle-Griffon-Manbearpig looks great as well. Again the colour gradients are looking very, very nice.

Your reds are impeccable as always Nerdy. Griffon is looking really tight too. Can't imagine what you're going to do with the feathers individually, but I also can't wait to find out!

More work on the Griffon today, pretty much got his body done, just the armour, feet, talons, eyes and tongue to do then it's wings and finished I do really like this model but I know I'll never use it, I must have some kind of mental psychological block that lets me paint models but the rules just escape me so I can never get into another system, which is sad as I do enjoy looking at the fantasy models maybe i'll just do a random model every now and again to give away or something?

but until then, here's your update on the Griff.

Oh man... the skin and the blending on the beak are just amazing! Nice touch with the fingernail "talons" too.

If you're wanting to just branch out model wise without investing in games, then you're painting at a standard where even on a slow day you'd be selling for 2-3 times the price of the model in the first place, so it would essentially fund itself. Or just do what I do, paint all kinds of random stuff and embark on a 5 year mission to seek out new shelves to put it on...

Or pick up more standalone stuff like Silver Tower, Zombicide Black Plague, etc in a fantasy setting without the hardcore investment.
