Hey Dakka

Attempting a suit list with a small bomb and OSC
Meta is varied so trying to keep it as open as possible to hold its own against all comers

Ghostkeel Shas'vre [Cyclic Ion Raker, Early Warning Override, Target Lock, Twin-linked Fusion Blaster]
Ghostkeel Shas'vre [Cyclic Ion Raker, Early Warning Override, Target Lock, Twin-linked Fusion Blaster]

Feel like I need more crisis and drones in the big squad and more missilesides but the only place I can shave points is dropping a ghostkeel or two and I do like all 3 in the OSC...

Basically I'd like to know if this list works or what small changes could be made?

Can the OSC work with less ghostkeels to boost the units in the retaliation cadre? If so what should the priority be? (Missilesides, crisis, gun drones)

Thanks guys!!!

Other idea is to stick to original idea without the OSC
I do really like the OSC which is why I'm trying to make it fit :-)

Come on Dakka!! No comments? Advice? Praises? (Lol)

Need as many opinions as possible so I can see a varied view....

I'm purchasing some more models soon and would like to know which direction I'm going

Well I don't have any in game experience yet. (Last battle I played was 5th) However I am reading a lot and I look lots of battle reps. But from what I can tell it is good list seem to have most things covered. However I am confused what you play. I assume it is dawnblade contingent from mont'Ka. Because of the aux choice ret cadre as core. However in FSA you cannot bring a buffmander and everyone requires bkr.

Don't have mont'ka yet and wasn't 100% on it being purely FSE... That was something I was wondering, it is set up as TE for the buffmander as a ret cadre seems a bit pointless with out one

If that's the case I'll just run it as 3 formation detachments and lose out on the 'killing blow'

I've not played since 4th so I'm in a similar position of reading at bat reps lol

Just checked Mont'ka at local GW and the Dawn Blade is a Farsight formation so for this list I'll have to run it as 3 separate detachments
Miss out on Killing Blow but if I take a Dawn Blade I lose the buffmander and that's what the Retaliation Cadre is based around in this list

I might play around with a few Hunter Contingent ideas but everyone has different thoughts on CF.....

You can still play it just change your buffmander to a mark'omander. Give everyone bkr. You have awesome reroll) Because you can take the osc from tau codex

I'd like to run the buffmander in this list.....

Yes I understand but doesn't killing blow gives you almost the same?

No I think the benefits of a buffmander (with the crisis team and drones) are better than mont'ka plus iridium suit is a no brainier in my eyes

I would have a target lock on the Velocity Tracker Ghostkeel.

Might also make one of those Ghostkeel a Meltacannon.

Since you said you really want to play with the OSC I won't put my thoughts on it down lol

But...

Your main XV8 unit is really not focused, I find that XV8 units do better with one main purpose. and yours kind of has 3. The target locks help, but ultimately to use all those weapons effectively east round you will find yourself getting into risky positions i think. That's the only huge thing I see that you might want to change. I get that the buffmander gives you more suits for it to benefit, but I think its less useful in a mixed weapon unit anyway.

Well I've heard that ITC nerfed OSC... So please share thoughts. :-). Not checked yet, if so the other list might be better. The raker also seems to be better all round for any situation. not sure I'm facing much av14 but there's fusion suits about

As for the XV-8s, I'm unsure on load out. That is one of my concerns. I feel the varied load out is the more viable option with a buffmander in the unit for sharing the love and tanking

As for target lock on the VT keel. he don't need it..... The other two have target locks so I can keep ewo on all 3

There is a list in OP with a bigger bomb and no OSC

ghostkeels are very overcosted, they get out-ranged easily and have to get close to be effective, they can be double toughed and you lose 140 points in 1 wound, and they have been nerfed as you've stated - not only this but you have to take 180 points of stealth suits which aren't competitive.

what do you do against 5 flyrants/flier heavy lists?

The thing I don't like about the list you have is you've got a couple units that cost far too much. (commander+suits, ghostkeels) you can't afford to lose either of these or you will have no answer to some bigger problems.

it also looks like you're trying to solve every problem with str7 spam - this only works if you roll well and your opponent doesn't.

markerlights take the rolls out of the game - BS5/ignore cover on plasma/fusion is the way to go with drone network

sure a buffmander can be great, but for the same points I'd rather have 2 units of 3-4 crisis suits all with plasma and EWO who will do the same thing with 16 marker lights and the dawn blade buff.

deep-striking+relentless braodsides with BS 4 missile drones are one of the biggest gifts of the retaliation formation and you aren't using it.

abuse the fact that your drone now have intercept - keep EWO on atleast half your army because you shouldn't be keeping the retaliation cadre in reserves every match

I would recommend setting up your retaliation cadre like this

Dawn Blade

Primary - Retaliation Cadre

Commander (120)
Plasma x2, EWO

Riptide (191)
BKR, IA, EWO

Crisis x3 (174)
Plasma, EWO, BKR

Crisis x2 (116)
Plasma, EWO, BKR

Crisis x3 (159)
Fusion, BKR

Broadsides x2 (200)
EWO, HYMP, Plasma, BKR
missile drones x4

Auxiliary

Drone net - 224
4x4 marker drones

Riptide Wing

Burst tide (203)
velocity tracker, Advanced targeting system
Burst tide (203)
velocity tracker, Advanced targeting system
Burst tide (203)
velocity tracker, Advanced targeting system

total : 1793

do what you will with the last 40ish points but this list is going to get you quite a bit further than yours.

when you min/max a list like this and don't take any single unit over 250ish points, you will be a lot less hurt by losing any single unit and still remain a threat across the board.

I aren't think that.

Sounds good. Still a shame ghostkeels got nerfed. Love the models and rules when released.....

Does anyone have any thoughts on the second list in the spoiler?

The pathfinders seem a bit too squishy and unsure on crisis load outs but could be effective if used right. Plus the broadsides are maxed out. :-)
