Welp this is going to be interesting. I hope I'll be able to use my old army books with it.

Well, it's about time. I suppose it's to coincide with this whole scifi Konflict 47 thing they're doing.

But, when your most dedicated group of players have to create a giant document to fix the balance, you know the game has needed this for a while.

...from the Warlord forums;

It's good to hear so much interest and passion - I thought I might provide a quick note from Warlord HQ in an attempt to clarify a few points, and perhaps calm some nerves.

The Bolt Action Rulebook was released back in September 2012 - and remains the highest-selling wargames rules system produced by Osprey Publishing. Since release we've tried to keep the game up-to-date with erratas, additional scenarios, the 'Armies of..' and Theatre Books - as well as additional units published as regularly as we can... over the past 3.5 years-or-so, we've listened closely to the community - your feedback and input has been invaluable in shaping the game into it's current form.

As we hear more feedback from the community, we continue to revise and assess.

As yet, I've heard no official word on a planned release date for a second edition of the Bolt Action rulebook - however the idea has obviously been discussed - with the current version of the rules now around 3.5 years old, the current errata standing at 18 pages, and with more than 3 years worth of games having been played across all corners of the globe - a second edition is inevitable...

I have been privy to a few discussions on the matter - and from what I understand, if/when we were to publish a second edition, the main purpose would be to update the existing (1st edition) rules to include all of the points raised in the Errata, and to incorporate some of the other additional rules/scenarios etc that we have published... effectively bringing everything up-to-date. We don't intend to make drastic changes, or massively overhaul the rules system - and we intend for the current series of 'Armies of...' and Theatre Books to remain current and relevant - the only exception being the 'Armies of Germany' book - which is being tweaked following community feedback.

If/when we have any news regarding a second edition, we will of course be sure to shout about it via the usual channels (The Warlord Newsletter, Facebook page, and here on the forums.)

Let's hope It's not going to be anything like 7th ed for 40k.

Based on what Warlord is saying on their own forum, it doesn't sound like there's a new edition currently on the schedule.

However, it appears that we'll be getting an updated FAQ sometime in the near future. Given how long it's been since the last FAQ, and how much stuff has been released, this is *long* overdue.

I was at an event with Alessio Cavatore (the chief rules writer for Bolt Action) last year and he said that second ed was inevitable in the next year or so, but that they were happy with the basic rules as a whole, but there were tweaks that needed doing. He basically said the vast majority of the rules wouldn't see major changes - the game will stay the same it will just be clearer.

Honestly I think this was an ignorant thing to say. Completely different game companies with different ways of business. An updated rulebook would be good thing just to get the errata's in there and add some more scenarios.

The only real change I want to see is the Infantry Sections's LMG brought down in points and that is it.
The game in itself is really well built and very good.

I don't mind a new edition that is a tweak and errata of the rules. The biggest problem is that writers/manufacturers feel the urge to change lots of rules to justify to us that we need to buy it. Then changes get brought in that either aren't needed or end up half tested and need more errata down the line. Let's hope this isn't the case.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Xenos Rampant, Mars Code Aurora and Battletech.
I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - Nice models, naff games, but I'm enjoying HH2 and loving Battletech Classic and Alpha Strike.

Points will not change, because points costs are listed in the Armies of... books.

As Warlord has stated, the errata will be incorporated. Any rules changes will only occur within the confines of the rules present in the main rulebook.

Perhaps they'll give them a buff so the points costs in the army books don't need changing.

My only gripe is LMGs and the recce rule. The rest is golden.

See? Rules CAN be written with balance and playability.

If this is mostly integrating errata into the rulebook, will any other changes be added to the errata so thaat we don't need to buy new rulebooks?

That is a good question, and would be awesome of Warlord to do that - I'll kick it up the chain and maybe it'll hit the right ears.

So they're planning on releasing what sounds like the BA rulebook with the errata incorporated, and Armies of Germany with the errata incorporated, but that's apparently it.

From what I've heard there will be minor tweaks as well (fingers crossed for better LMG'S and MMG's) but not much has been said yet

I'll be very disappointed if they don't includes changes to those weapons and I can think of a whole list of other things I'd like to be looked at.

I've seen Alessio himself write about people not being happy with the LMG/MMG so I'm sure it will be changed.

Would anyway risk a guess that the plastic paras may be seen at Salute? The US sculpts are just getting quickly out paced by all the new German ones.

Hmm I wonder which we will see first, the rule book v2 or the plastic us airborne. Both together in a new themed starter set would be good. At a discount the starter sets can be very good deals. Market Garden theme maybe.
Here's wishing anyway.
