Hey everyone,
We've got a small Kickstarter project going live today, to fund production of some female dungeoneer minis. We've gone for a low-level, sensibly equipped theme, to try and provide an alternative to all the cheesecake and bling models already out there... if that sounds like something that might interest you, please check out our project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/heroines-in-sensible-shoes-28mm-miniatures-for-rol
cheers,
Michael

The humans look pretty good but the other species... I am not too keen on their look. Do you have any painted examples (I know you are getting the cash together for moulds etc but you might have made a few home-made reproductions ).

The legs look oddly foreshortened - they should be slightly longer than the torso, rather than shorter than it is.
I won't be quite so patronising as to link a first-year anatomy tutorial, but...

Are you referring to the Human Fighter?
The Rogue looks about right imo-the chain and padding obscure the hip area to a point that it's hard to tell where legs/torso begins and ends.

I would LOVEto support this, the minis look great and I hate chainmail bikinis... But why do nearly all models have torches or lanterns? That makes them useless outside of dungeon crawls, which seems like a very odd choice even if they're technically supposed to be dungeoneers. One or two, sure, but all but one? sadly I can't say I'll be backing :(

I've had a master mould done, so I do have a set of metal casts - but I've only painted the rogue so far; sculpting takes up most of my time unfortunately!

To be honest, I think we already know the answer to that... just ask any ad agency. But I'm just hoping there'll be some left for us.

I can see what you mean - but I think the pose, angle of the photo and the equipment is distorting it... Here's an alternative angle:

Fair enough - but as you say, these are meant to be dungeoneers... once the first 12 are done, I'll be making some without lights. These ones started out as a miniis for my local group, and we've done nothing but dungeon crawls so far! The human fighter looks odd as does the Rogue who looks like she's wearing heavier armour.
While I support the idea ( but I'm actually a big fan of pin up style figures ) it's great to have both. You do seem to talk down to those who like the other style.. and it's not needed really as I wouldn't stop you from having something you like.

It's certainly not our intention to talk down to anyone... the only bit on the KS that mentions it is 'Although there are loads of male miniatures available already, there are a lot less female ones... and they tend to be split between overly sexualised chainmail bikini types, or high-level characters with ornate armour and weapons.'
I didn't think that was too controversial really - all we're trying to do here is provide more options, rather than judge anyone... sorry if it has offended you!

Thanks Josh! Much appreciated.

I just want to say "ditto" to the positive recommendations about Oathsworn from other Dakka-ites. I backed an earlier project of theirs. Sculpts were crisp and clean. Fulfillment was prompt. Packing was excellent.
I agree about wanting some sculpts without torches/lanterns but I kinda like their "this is what we've been playing, so this is what we're sculpting" approach. They may sell fewer models, but Oathsworn has always struck me as a very personal, passion-driven enterprise.

I finally backed my first Oathsworn project, their one right before this, and am eagerly awaiting my package which was put in the mail just before this one started:
Now that is a beautiful sight to see from a Kickstarter creator! Especially one who has done it consistently across several projects.
So far, I don't have need of these sensible ladies, but will certainly be watching the campaign to see if a model crops up that I can make use of. And absolutely love the title

I won't be able to back this.
I'm crying here - I really want female characters in reasonable gear, with reasonable proportions, in reasonable poses.
And for the female dwarf, I can always sculpt in my own beard with green stuff - beards are the easiest mod....
