I need to make some posters and unit cards for demos. Do any of you have a preference for a free desktop publishing program?

Other than simply using GoogleDocs which I use for most small projects. For larger projects I have been using https://www.lucidpress.com/, which does have a free option but it is limited. If you know what you want do already I believe the trial is 14 days. I make enough documents to print and pdf publishing that for me it was worth the small monthly fee. When I stop using it I unsubscribe but my docs stay saved, then resubscribe when I need to make edits again.

It has been a few generations since I last used Scribus - but I was pretty happy with it.

Nowadays I use PagePlus - and there is a free, stripped down, Starter version.

I am very happy with PagePlus, but have never tried the free version.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Thank you both. I'll start with your suggestions and go from there

If I was going to do this, and I was trying to make something prettier than what I'd make in OpenOffice, I'd use Inkscape - a vector art program.

Second Inkscape.

But something you MIGHT want to think about is simply buying a one or two month subscription to the Abode Creative Cloud (they also offer student discounts).

Photoshop and Illustrator probably have the best tutorials and assets available for 2D design work.

A few years ago Moo Cards were quite popular for their high quality and quality/price ratio. I don't know if their product got worse but I don't hear many people talking about them anymore.

It seems that they also have postcards and flyers now (they made business cards originally). You might find some size that works for you and get all done without even needing to print it yourself. But it's probably a bit more expensive than doing everything on your own.

I'm a big fan of Scribus and have used it for everything from wedding invitations to character sheets.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."
