Post from BoLS by Denzark:
Firstly, I should say, I am not pushing this as a cheap wind up. Secondly, I have absolutely no provenance for this - except it comes from a guy in a wargames group I go to who I trust, and this is how the story goes.
On the group, he posts this link:
http://www.dreamsaway.co.uk/#!warhammer-40000/c1p3b
Which if you click it, should go to a sort of happy clappy 'head shop' selling dream catchers and that sort of tat. Anyhoo, at link they claim to be having a contract with GW to create 'exclusive licensed products'.
The FB conversation with my contact say:
'I would be very surprised if GW had licensed these'
'Not in a million years lol'
(him) 'Well I emailed GW it turns out they are lol'.
So, on face value:
A firm a pushing product is using GW IP
The firm claims it is an exclusive contract
My mate say he emailed GW and they confirmed it is legit.
So, with Toy fairs etc, and now this licensing, is GW pushing the boundaries?

My games room is so getting an Aquila clock lol.
Do I need to say prays to it each day to ensure it keeps the right time?
Years and years ago they used to do merchandise but then stopped. Always wondered why as people really seem to go for that stuff these days....hell look at how many video game stuff you see.

Hopefully the stuff they put out will be good. If they put out high quality stuff like the Bulldog Buckle deal they had way back, I'd buy some stuff in a heartbeat.

I can actually provide a little insight on this. GW was in early talks with a company I work for to produce similar products. Mugs, shirts, hoodies, prints, etc. I didn't ever follow up to see why it didn't go anywhere, but I did see some awesome 40k merch we produced as mock-ups for them.
I don't think they are licensing out the IP so much as seeking 3rd party companies to produce and ship their merchandise. It's actually really common practice for companies to contract out this kind of stuff. Despite having a robust shipping infrastructure they likely don't want to have it produced elsewhere, then shipped to them to ship to the customers. It's much more efficient to just have these manufacturers to ship direct to customer.

That seems similar to how Marvel does their stuff. They have packets of approved images and have places like Wal-Mart and Target handle the intermediary stuff.
I only saw the rumor about the painting kits but it had mentioned that they were intended for toy stores etc. If Wal-Mart and similar are being courted by GW, I would expect to see some of those types of clocks and pillows and shirts and things.
I've been saying for a very long time that GW needs to pick back up on the shirts. I used to own a few of the old Black Library and Forge World shirts. They were absurdly priced and honestly not that great as shirts go but I snapped them up anyway.

The shirts and hoodies we printed were really great. Nothing I personally would wear, but just because I'm a bit old to walk around with a khorne marine on my hoodie, but cool none-the-less. If they were selling anything close to what I saw, they would be flying off the shelves.

Yeah, when I see shirts on ThinkGeek, J!nx, or even just the ones in Wal-Mart or stores in the mall.. I tend to think.. man.. what if some of the stuff I actually like had shirts this cool or funny?
Whoever got those test products is lucky
BTW: You can also set up private stores on some print on demand sites so you can print some of this stuff for yourself.. just don't try to sell it.

This is just kinda weird. In addition to that website's animal healing, aura & chakra cleansing, and tarot card readings treatments, this is their shop list:
Buddha and Oriental Figures
Candles and Candle Holders
Canvasses
CDs
Clocks
Crystals
Dreamcatchers
Fantasy & Mystical
Gem Trees
Incense Burners
Incense Sticks
Mugs
Novelty Gifts
Oil Burners
Handmade Items
Subscriptions
Warhammer 40,000
One of these is not like the others...

The actual licensor is not Dreamsaway but Nemesis Now, importers of branded fantasy merchandise, wiccan trinkets and the kind of stuff you'd see at a pot shop. Almost as surreal, just a bit less so.
IMHO this is just a supply deal for a future souvenir store at Warhammer World (Nemesis Now's warehouses are quite close to Nottingham) and, if I recall correctly, the wholesaler supplies to UK only.

I think they just got thrown out actually. I'm sure if someone asked we could have had them, but I completely forgot about it at the time and never thought to ask our printing dept. guys until way after the fact.

"Warhammer 40,000
Although we are clairvoyant mediums and spiritualists, we don't just stop at spiritual goods - Nemesis Now have an excellent contract in place with Games Workshop to create this exclusively licensed materials for us to sell to the retail. Spirit know just how important it is for us to have the things we crave whilst we go about our lives on the Earth Plane, so this is why they have told us to jump on this opportunity and have available these items on our store."
This is hilarious.

Y'know, as much as this makes zero sense...I guess it's sorta in keeping with GW's bizarre licensing trend.
Although, like Sinful Hero said, that tag line is hilarious.

I see the sense in licensing productions of non-core items like mugs and T-shirts, but the web-site is so counter-intuitive a place to find them I can't see how any potential customer is likely ever to discover it.
Forbidden Planet would be a much more sensible place to start, because it already has a significant footprint in the genre marketplace.

I think it's worth re-iterating Agent_Tremolo's point, which some people seem to have missed.
Dreams Away does not have the licence, they do not make these things, they are just retailing them.
The company that does make them is nemesis now http://www.nemesisnow.com/nemesis-now-premium-ranges/sci-fi/
They seem to only sell wholesale to retailers. They are based in Stoke On Trent, about 50 miles from GW's HQ.

The thing is I know the shop in question, it's in a place called Dereham in Norfolk, and is quite famous in the area.
For those that don't know Norfolk it is essentially a sprawling mass of nothingness punctuated here and there by small towns and essentially no public transport.....
No offence to anybody from or living in Norfolk but I lived in Dereham for some time and can assure you there is literally nothing there, with Norwich being the closest thing to civilisation a bit of a pain to get to without your own transport.
The shop in question sells a huge amount of random stuff and pretty much caters for all the nerds and alternative folk in the area, so is actually not such a random place to find 40K merchandise.
There is actually a pretty big gaming community in Norfolk, especially around the Norwich area and I cannot think of anywhere else that would sell this sort of merchandise, and it's actually a pretty cool shop with great staff so I expect they are selling this stuff because somebody in the shop is a 40K fan.
