I haven't seen those sculpts before, they're actually pretty nice. I really like the "staple gun" style pistols you've made. They rather remind me of the gun thingy the Dead Space characters have, and aren't obviously from any of the other 40K factions.

Right on weety!! I really love these, especially the guns. The ones tha look like handles are exactly like the weapons the doctor class in the game wildstar uses. Check em out! Can wait to see how you paint these as well

The Space Skinks look great, and I think affiliating them with the Tau is also a perfect idea that works well with canon. Similarly, I'd go for Imperial Beastmen, though if you wanted to go crazy you could do a set each for Imperial as well as Chaotic.

Maybe... what with all the extra heads and arms that could work.
Whilst waiting for lizardmen arms I got some more paint on genestealers, just work in progress skin/chitin colours:
Purestrains
Aberants
Familiars

Hello! I've been a follower of your blog for ages, but since I'm trying to forge through the DW:OK stuff myself, thought I'd make a comment on how great the skin tone is looking on your cult figures, especially the familiars. Given that they're supposed to be summoned from the warp I was thinking of trying to give mine an ethereal-sorta-vibe but had no idea how I'd achieve it. I reckon I might just copy yours!
PS just noticed that the familiar on the right is missing a claw. Mine broke in exactly the same place :(

Yeah I should fix that. It was like that when I opened em I think.
Cool I saw your DW;OK and there pretty damn good. Might be helpful to list the paints I used although I paints em in vallejo and I'm not sure there's equivalents in citadel.
Its a base coat of old rose, wet blended broad highlights in sunny skin tone, a stippled highlight of pale skintone, heavy wash of pale grey wash in a 5:2:1 ratio with purple wash plus dark blue. After that's dry do top highlights with more sunny skintone and pale skintone ontop. And thats as far as I got but there'll be more highlights and stuff.

Nice start, Weety. Some of them do seem to be quite attached to those skulls, nearly as much as The Predator.

A skull in the hand is worth two in the bush they say.
I've got some time to paint today so I added more to the aberants. Highlights of sky blue and then pale blue for the chitin, basic fleshtone for the claws and bony protrusions, a terracota wash on the metal, flesh wash on the transitions between bone-skin-chitin.

Thanks very much for your compliments.
I added more rust colours and detail with dark washes; umber and black, went over the models with a scalpel to try and get rid of tiny lumpy bits and then highlighted the bones and claws with pale flesh.
tried to get the photos in focus this time

Cracking work on the skin on the various Aberrants, you are certainly rattling through the Deathwatch: Overkill set with unnerving speed and quality. Keep it up!

Yeah I'm definitely looking for a fairly star treky type look with the guns, not tau really athough probably tau are the closest in style to star trek - we're bulk watching DS9 at the mo and I love the bajorian and cardassian phaser pistols.

Good morning dakka! I am now married! And my beastmen came in the post! The good times roll.

Now would be an excellent time to do some kitbashing surely...

Congrats on the Nuptials Weety!
Kitbashing sounds like a nice way to do some time spending, I think.
Interesting use of a spare Eldar arm, looks organic enough, but the 5-fingers though, where did the space lizards get that idea from I wonder? Makes for different space lizards than just the Tau, who many mistake as a fish race. I once thought of converting the larger lizard men into Tarellian "dog-soldiers"

It was the best wedding ever! Actually it would have been better if I'd shelled out for the klingon wedding but then the bridesmaids would have had to have a batleth fight over the bouquet.
Good point didn't notice that. Maybe they are jealous of the extra finger...
Well I've been pretty damn hungover, but I did a bit of cut 'n' shut on this ungor. Seems that with a little re-jiggering its going to work. Also testing out photography with a black background... I think I need to fiddle with the ISO or sumat as its over exposed. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and this is the first member of Penal Legion squad IX of the Xanthus Punishment Battalion, Mutant cohort. Purged from the toxic underhive of Xanthus prime, these mutants are marked for death on the front lines against the xenos scum...
