So, it turns out that painting X-Wing ships is actually kind of fun and doesn't take anywhere near as long as painting one of my beloved 40k tanks. And, unlike 40k, X-Wing is actually a playable game, so I get the satisfaction of seeing my models on the table. End result: I've been doing more X-Wing than 40k lately, and should probably start a new blog for it instead of dumping them in with my DKoK.

To start things off I'm going to post a few single images of the full repaints (as opposed to just ink washes and squadron color changes) I've done. I have a lot more, but to avoid having to assemble a ton of pictures I'm going to wait until you guys ask to see more pictures of something. So please do so if you like a ship!

XG-1 "Star Wing" assault gunboat:

A whole squadron of Z-95s, modified to remove the ugly missile boxes under the wings:

Omega Leader (with stealth device!)

An attempt to salvage the Kwhatsit fighter:

Poe Dameron (of course):

Vader's jedi fighter:

Corran Horn's CorSec X-Wing (Bacta War style)

Do you have a recent whole fleet shot, because separately they are sweet, together that would be awesome.......but you'll probably need a bigger board to fit them all on.

A new thread I see. Some pretty interesting color schemes. Are they originals or belong to characters? I dont know anything about X Wing.

Wow, these look amazing! Even zoomed in like this, they're impressive - and just Love the damaged look you're getting.

I don't recognize many of these ships, though - are they third party or am I really just that out of the loop with the current X-wing meta / releases?

The XG-1 "Star Wing" assault gunboat is third party and so is "Vader's jedi fighter".

The rest seem to be legit FFG miniatures repainted.

Correct me if i am mistaken.

Corran and Poe (the two x-wings) are fluff-based, the jedi fighter is very loosely based on Vader's ship, the others are original.

You're correct. The gunboat and jedi fighter are from shapeways, the others are the normal FFG models.

I like the paint jobs you did. I know how small these things are which only increases my appreciation for them.

Time for another repaint, this time a commission! Yes, Peregrine actually got paid to paint something! And when the buyer took it to a major tournament this weekend Alex Davy (lead designer for X-Wing) apparently had some nice praise for it. I think I'm pretty happy with that outcome.

High praise indeed. It looks great.

And, finished just four hours before I had to wake up for regionals, my favorite ship in the game: Corran Horn. I may have lost hilariously badly, but at least I had one of the best painted ships at the tournament!

And now, a desperate attempt to make the Scyk somewhat less ugly. I'm not really sure what to think of this one, I'm debating whether I should add a layer of paint chipping and oil stains like most of my other ships or if the highlighting work is good enough to stand alone. Opinions appreciated!

Your paintwork is very solid and looks great. The weathering definitely gives it a more gritty "lived in" look, but the clean looks more old school Star Wars.

Loving what you've shown off so far - really makes the models look way more vibrant as opposed to the 49 shades of grey they come in in the box

Yet another Z-95, because they may be meatshields but at least they're going to die in style!

Thanks for reviving the thread for some more praise! It's regionals season soon, which means I'll probably have another ship or two to post (because who wants the shame of playing in a tournament with unpainted ships?).

Same general process as my 40k models, if you've read any of that thread. Base coat, ink wash to darken the panel lines, paint over everything but the panel lines with the original color, then edge highlights (the main difference, since the tiny models need a little help on the edges). The weathering is just sponge chipping with a very dark gray/brown and a tiny bit of black/brown ink for stains/burn marks/etc. The hardest part is being really careful to keep everything in-scale and not have any large blobs from the sponge chipping.

Trash. By the time I get them off they're pretty mangled, so they're not really useful for anything.

3d printed from https://www.shapeways.com/shops/mel_miniatures (in the highest detail material). And it took paint just fine, it seemed to soak into the surface a bit so I did an initial gray base coat to seal everything. After that it worked fine, it was just like painting any other model.

Loving your work here, that Syck and Corran especially. Did you use anysort of magnifyer for painting the ETA2? I just finished mine and it is so tiny.

Nope, just a fine-pointed brush and some patience. I did scale down the level of detail a bit because it's such a tiny model, it looks ok on the tabletop but the painting is really basic if you look at it closely.

The slow march of progress continues. Has it really been five months since my last X-Wing repaint? What a horrifying thought. In any case, here's an x-wing to match the bone white scheme of Corran's e-wing. I think the dry winter air made my paint dry too quickly and left some awkward brush strokes visible, so I'm not 100% happy with it. But I guess it looks ok at tabletop distance.
