On another DakkaDakka thread I ran across a Kickstarter, and the next thing that I knew, my Halfling cavalry for Rhordia had turned chicken....

Suddenly I needed those figures....

What other figures are... unique... for Uncharted Empire armies?

The Eureka miniatures frog guys (pointed out to me by Swastakowey) are great for the trident realms.

Macrocosm or Westfalia's Halflings as well. Any historicals for the humans and I believe an obscure company called GW does quite a few.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. There are alot of options for army-sized ranges that would be good for uncharted empires or other KoW forces. Most of these are smaller companies that are keeping in-production, rather massive lines that were originally from games that are now gone. Being metal, you'll have some replication of pose, but the lines/companies below all produce ranges intended for building armies, not just RPGs.

-Black Tree Designs has two large army ranges including the old Harlequin fantasy ranges. Some Very classic GW style stuff in there.

-EM4, Forlorn Hope and Merliton have the Grenadier "Fantasy Warriors" game ranges Also a bit similar to classic GW, but a smoother, less exaggerated aesthetic. Lots of great Mark Copplestone work in there.

-Brigadier Models has the Celtos armies. If you liked the sculpting for Void, you'll like this game from the same folks. I think Kev White may have had a hand in this, but I'm not sure.

-Prince August has a huge old stockpile (possibly some new production?) of the Chronopia ranges. If you liked the 90's Warzone style, you'll like this stuff.

-Scotia Grendel has a large fantasy range whose name escapes me.

-The Dwarf Wars range is still available from West Wind miniatures. In the USA Old Glory produces most of the line at a rather large discount. I like the style of these figs which come in a surprising variety of sculpt variations for a metal miniature line. They're also quite tall and compare well to contemporary sizes.

-Sgt. Major miniatures has the entire Vendel fantasy line back in production. A bit old-school, but great prices on some nice armies in the style of pre-Jackson Middle Earth.

-Iron Wind metals is in the process of putting a big part of their "Chaos Wars" range back in production via KS right now. A bit smaller in size than current figs, but some nice stuff in there including lots of work by Tom Meier and other famous sculptors.

If you want to do a human army based on historical figs, the list of companies and armies is several times this long.

I just checked out Black Tree Designs. They are having a huge sale on fantasy stuff. If you are a fan of the old GW style (3rd ed - 5th) check them out. They have regiments fo 15-18 METAL models for about $25. That's pretty good these days for metal.

Saw these guys at Campaign over the weekend. They have a range of scarecrows and pumpkin-heads which could work in a night-stalker army. So might their scorpion men. The wights are pretty nice when painted up as well. Can't really go wrong with metal minis at a quid fifty each either.

While not uncharted empires I used the figs from the core box of B-Sieged as well as their avatar of the abyss and the mulfings to make a counts as Ogre army for KOW
.
The two giants are from my kickstarter of Blood Rage. All in I got the Army for about $100 after discounts from miniaturemarket (minus the 2 giants), and there are still another 25-30 figs to paint up to complete the horde which sits over 3000 points right now.

more pics of this in my KOW Gallery including closeups of most of the models.

I'm now working on a Herd army using Wrath of Kings and Confrontation wolfen to be the backbone of a 2000 point all werewolf army.

once again this is a bargain army for me. I got the 2 player WOK starter box for $30 at miniaturemarket (it's 2 miles from me and they have a dinged and dented section that has seen me into the poor house). Plus I grabbed a Goritsi skorza box at discount to bulk it up as well as 4 boxes of clearance or really reduced prepainted confrontation wolfen to make 2000points by themselves. All around $120 including a few boxes of their now sold out Alkemy Aurlock figures which will be used as tribals. They look like were creatures, half man and mixes of wolf, crows and simians. These are getting bulked out with my old RPG figures as well. Only other model in the pic which isn't part of the buys was a Kickstarter exclusive Fenrir from Blood Rage. I'll be using him as the Avatar of the father.

also grabbed out of the bits box at Miniature market a metal reaper were-rhino????? and a giant, both were 25cents each . The giant may not fit the army, but he can go into another project, or use as a brutox.

Nice Werewolf figure selection. I bought the bag of 30 Confrontation starter werewolves (for around $30!!) from MM a couple years ago. I haven't played them in the new edition, but last edition they were just about the nastiest thing you could field and almost a points bargain. I made one horde for myself, one for a friend and two or three units to sell.

The 30 deal isn't up anymore, but they've still got a whole bunch of different units that come to between $1.50 and $3 per wolf. You can make a pretty cheap KoW army from this page...
http://www.miniaturemarket.com/table-top-miniatures/confrontation/wolfen-of-yilla.html
...and the painting is already done for you!

The Confrontation prepainted stuff is nice because the paintjob's aren't bad and as long as you don't mind a few mold lines (if you clean them up you probably have to repaint...) on a few models you can just dip them and go. They're also multipiece so you can break them up and reposition them. I made mine a bit less hunched over by rotating the heads up a bit. I like their clothed tribal look alot better than the Mantic werewolves.

Here's my personal batch, Quite a few limb and head repositions and I painted over the blue tattoos to make them red (my army is a primarily red chaos force) but other than that it's just basing and brush-dip followed by a matte varnish.

Here's some that I did for a buddy. These are stock, Just rebased, brush-dipped and varnish.

And remember that these are all the starter-box werewolves which IIRC were the least-impressively painted of the line!

Deep Wars and Wrath of Kings have a lot of models that can fit in a Trident Realms army. The Dirz from Confrontation could be used for night stalkers.

My current quest is poufy sleeved goblins (wearing 16th - 17th century garb) to use as goblins that have cleverly disguised themselves as halflings for a League of Rhordia army... and discovered that they like it there. (Hey, guys! They don't sometimes forget and eat us!)

Foundry makes Lanschneckt Orcs like that, are there maybe any goblins in that range? I think you have to call them to order the orcs directly so you might as well drop them a line.

The list of links I posted has miniatures suitable for the Brotherhood, Ratkin, Rhordia, Enpire of Dust, Varangur, Brotherhood, The Herd. At minimum.

So.... a minimum of 7 out of the 9 UE armies.

And the answer to that question is a very sad 'Nope!'

Foundry was my very first stop in my quest for goblins with poufy sleeves. (The orcs are now available through Warmonger Miniatures..)

Orcs, ogres, halflings, dwarfs, and even giants seem to like their Renfaire garb, but gobbos... not so much.

An idea I saw elsewhere and am also using: buy Sedition Wars boxes at clearance, build a Nightstalkers army from the monsters. Deadzone Plague and 40K Tyranids could also fit into the general "sci-fi monsters invading a fantasy world" theme.

That's a great idea! I bought 3 boxes of them to make a platoon of sci-fi troopers...
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2015/01/sedition-wars-good-deal-for-patient.html
...but using the strain for fantasy would probably work great since most of them have no sci-fi weapons.

As it happens, my buddy painted up batches of both Strain and Plague as one big sci-fi zombie source. You can see more here:
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2015/02/fully-painted-radioactive-space-mutants.html
but here's a general idea of how they look together.

Plague stage 3, two Strain phase 1, Plague stage 3, and Strain phase 2

At about $30 for the box of 50 figs it's an amazing deal even if you only want the Strain. I split the cost of the first box with my buddy above and on the second two boxes I made the cost of the box back by selling off the Strain minis and game supplies.
