So I bought a used aegis defense line and 2 boxes of HWT for my Imperial guard.

I went from almost always being tabled to finally winning my first match with them lol. I'm like 1/6 with them.

That aegis defense line and those 6 autocannons really stepped up my armies survavability and infantry squads now are a threat to many targets.

Also helps that I added Coteaz in my build.

So what buy/addition you made that really made a difference for your army/armies Dakka?

A Carrying Case... To put all my CSM away. But seriously, probably my Fire Raptor Gunship. I havent had a game yet where it didn't make its points back and then some while soaking up fire and being the general bane of my opponent.

Drop Pods for my Space Marines. I went from a complete losing record to winning most of my games almost overnight. The power of alpha-strike builds has informed literally every other army I've ever started.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Chaos knight. At the time the club was being dominated by a guy who used the cheap FW stompas and another guy who spammed imperial knights. Neither of them were ready for a SHW with a 2++ re-rollable in cc. My first game with it was simply the chaos knight and a DP, to bring grimoire, against the cheap stompa with some extra units. Turn 2 and the stompa had been insta-killed and my knight had taken no damage.

Of course the knight was good until the Ork player started using massive blobs of orks with hidden power klaws and the imperial players all used drop pod melta tactics.

A shelf for my CSM to sit on. Honestly it saddens me that I don't even have an answer to this question for that army because nothing I added to it ever did make a difference, only taking away from it to bring other stuff allied in.

As for my mechanicus, my knight Styrix definitely is a winner. The fact that he's basicly AV14 front as long as he hasn't been outflanked is amazing. Because of it, I honestly think they should bring the "explodes!" result on the vehicle damage table down to the D3 hull points it is for SHV. It'd add an extra layer of difficulty to blow up a vehicle in a single shot. It'd make 4HP vehicles like Land raiders actually worth a damn.

For my Daemons, a Nurgle DP was probably the best thing I added to my list. I converted one up to be a hard counter to things like Riptides and WKs. Time and again it would swoop in and catch my opponent's by surprise with both it's 2+ cover and it's ability to remove large threats in one shot. It was a lot of fun to play and I had a blast converting it. Of course this was all before the 7th edition Eldar codex dropped, now it's much harder to take a WK down in one round of CC with my DP. Ah well, still looks good on the table at least.

For my other armies? Mark'O for my Tau, Wyverns for my Guard, and for my Eldar it's probably the two units of Swooping Hawks I bought, they've been awesome.

Used a single wyvern for the first time ever in my first doubles tournament last weekend. It was brutally excellent (So long as they didn't target it first turn) and having that twin-linked, shredding mortar really boosts my list. Also using a single large blob lets me actually switch my list from Mech Vets at times which is always nice!

My latest additions to my Guard army are my super heavies and my Vulture. One SH is a Baneblade / Hellhammer. The other one covers the other 6 variants.

My addition before these were my 2 Wyverns. They did quite well the first time they saw battle.

For Dark Angels, my Darkshroud was probably the best thing I added.

For Khorne Daemonkin, its probably my Juggerlord. Before I got him I ran foot Chaos Lords, and that never went too well...

For Tau, it has to be the almighty Stormsurge. I wasn't even going to get one at first, but one of my friends convinced me to do it instead of two more ghostkeels for the same amount of money. Boy was he right!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

No intent to 1up your contribution so I'll 2up you instead

5 Battlewagons. Going from footslogging and losing half my boyz turn 1 to having my entire army scout up turn 1 (Blitz Brigade) and all the enemy's shooting harmlessly plinking off that AV14 goodness. Turn 2 charge with my entire army was all but guaranteed and unless the enemy has superior mobility or stuff like drop melta then the majority of my army survived the delivery phase of the battle.

It's yet to meet much Str: D, but Mr. Smite the Daemon has had a habit of murdering his way down the field - he rolls on Biomancy three times, and he's managed get to Iron Arm, Warp Speed and Life Leech, whilst getting a 4+ FNP from the rewards table, at which point he becomes nigh on unkillable by anything short of strength D.

Best additions...

CSM: added a minus 99% reduction to my collection by selling them.

IG: Added more russ hulls and shelved the entire army until the next codex.

BT: My EmpRAR's champion. Last summer I had a series of games with him. Every game he killed at least double his points in stuff, and in my group's headcannon he's taken out an entire chapter's librarius for heresy. So many dead librarians and terminators that week...

When I still had less than 1000 points, I was losing every game even with loaned friends models to use as different units and tactics. Then I bought a landraider Redeemer cause I love tanks, and flamethrowers. Turns out it was one of my best purchases and since that day 4 years ago I have yet to play a game with my marines and not use a landraider
