I made this quick mock-up for myself to see what alt builds may look like for the new kit and thought some people also considering purchasing the new kit might find this helpful, so here it is.

Yup, it definitely looks considerably better with the talon cockpit.

I'm thinking of using the Hawk cockpit on the Talon like the one in the photo and using the Talon cockpit on the Hawk. It just makes more sense to me that a fighter would would need the wider view afforded by the Talon's cockpit but I can imagine the view port being ok for a ground attack craft. doing strafing runs with the extra armour helping to protect the pilot from enemy flak.. On a side note to achieve that exact look on the Stormhawk it will take a razor saw to both cockpits and a bit of greenstuff to cover the seams between the join, hopefully the two cockpits will allign with minimal effort.

I just worry that the Talon cockpit won't be compatible with the new nose weapons. It likely will with some work (maybe none at all), so I am not too concerned. I plan on making a Stormhawk the command flyer to my two Stormtalons.

Going by the sprue pic posted in News and Rumours, both kits use the same cockpit, it's just the canopy and the weapon mount that changes.

Actually, it is different. It is longer and replaces the entire part that the pilot sits in. The weapon mounts are completely different too. It is possible some parts are reused, but a lot is different.

This ship needed a longer tail boom. It's too short and squished.

That said, it's massively better looking than the Stormtalon.

A ripe candidate for magnets and light conversion to give it the option to be both.

Nope. Here's the Stormhawk sprue:

No cockpit on there - it uses the Storm Talon sprues for that. It's just the canopy and the weapon mount that is different.

The canopy is longer than the cockpit assembly on the Stormtalon. It may still use the bottom half of the cockpit, and my guess is that the weapon mount fills the gap that would be left.

It may change assembly order, but that's about it. There's nothing indicating it'll kill the ability to mount weapons. Look at the pictures more closely, the elongated part just covers where the optics/light array is. Absolute worst case scenario you'd need to chop a little plastic from part of the mount.
