Yeah, I'm used to working the birds with browns, probably because I tend to do a lot of
work in browns. Maybe my next furry creature I'll learn to do a black to gray blend better.

Here's a pic of the Phoenix. The highlights are rough, but I like where I put them this
time. When I worked on the Manticore I think I was just guessing at the highlights.

Not at this time, no. I might want to try in the future, but while it saves me money/time in the long
term, magnetizing isn't a familiar skill yet and I'm doing what I can to keep the models moving
through the assembly line.

Also, magnetizing means I have to keep parts safe, and I'm less likely to lose them if they're firmly
attached to the model in question.

Attached:

Pictures of some Line of Sight blocking terrain I was thinking about building. One is a rock
formation, one is a ridgeline of sorts, and the last one is a fence. I haven't decided whether or
not I'll go through with these projects.

The bird looks great, it was the cloak i was saying would've looked better from black to grey.

Terrain looks good, i prefer the rock pile and fence over the second pic.

Go Searforge!

I take it you're waiting for Mk 2 rules for Hordes before getting Brun & Lug and the drunken Ogrun guy?

I had considered getting them for the project, but yes, I'm waiting for MK2 rules.

Herne and Jonne are more of a Durgen Madhammer kind of thing.

I <3 the bear and the wandering Ogrun, so I probably should have gotten them anyway,
but this way I have something to start with.

edit: Maybe I should include them anyway, given my theme. I just don't normally
buy a whole and complete army by itself.

You won't like the majority of the things that I paint then. I use either Reaper Dark Skin or
Reaper Olive on most of my models these days (the exceptions being Khador, Wood Elves
and High Elves and the odd Dwarf or two).

What I play regularly:

Warmachine/Hordes.

What I play sometimes:

Warhammer Fantasy

What someone is going to teach me to play:

Flames of War
Field of Glory

Here's pics of the Phoenix all done.

well, I would not say "cross of leather and poop", but I do think that the skin could use a highlight after the dip.

And I hate Reaper bases.

For Warmachine and Hordes, they simply come supplied with the models.

This is a Warmachine Solo, Anastasia diBRay. I'm not sure I like how it turned out, but I'm
also not quite sure if I'd have done it any differently. Maybe I would have blushed her cheeks
with some light pink...

Hehe. Fieldtest for Hordes drops today! (fyi)

randomfrog wrote:Malfred, do you dip, or wash? What's the difference?

I think the difference is that dipping uses that wood stain, and you shake off the excess
when you're done. I use a heavily glaze medium laden Vallejo Ink and brush it in. If I'm
feeling industrious, I will wash and highlight simultaneously, attempting to wet blend.

I'm usually not so industrious.

Anyway, this is Dawnlord Vyros.

Searforge has been fun painting so far. Sorry you don't like the green. Guess you won't
be borrowing my models when you come down to Adepticon, right?

Some terrain progress, but I don't think I've done much with the pieces since these pics:

The straights are 4" x 4", so the foam is 2" across. It's clearly an abstraction as when you put
the model behind the fortifications they appear from the waist up. The foam is 1" so I decided
not to slope it at all to make lining up the pieces easier to do.
