Hey guys, so I played a little Warmachine about a year ago and it was a blast, but the premeasuring was a big turn off for me. That being said, I was talking with an employee at my local store and he said that's gone in the new upcoming edition. So I have a couple question.

1) what are all the new changes?
2) is it still fun to play?
3) I heard they are releasing new starter boxes. If I buy the Cryx starting box, will those still be valid?

1) There's an awful lot of them, so it's a bit hard to list them here. There's a pretty good collected spoiler thread on Privateer's board, so check that out for more details.

2) Don't know yet as it's not out, but I can't imagine it won't be. 99% of the rules remain the same, with some changes to models and the occasional other change here and there.

3) Yep. All models are still valid. You'll need to get new cards, though.

I'm a little bit confused on when you say "the premeasuring was a big turn off for me ... I was talking with an employee at my local store and he said that's gone in the new upcoming edition" as there wasn't any premeasuring in MKII, it will be in the new edition. So if the store employee told you there will be no premeasureing in the new edition they were misinformed.

Measuring a warcaster/locks control area is gone, because you measure anything at any time.

Sorry, I meant the opposite of that. NOT being able to premeasure was the big turn off for me. I hated having to eyeball things

1. We won't know all of them till June 10th

2. None of us will know till June 10th.

3. Yes and yes. Though you'll probably need to get the new cards if you buy a mk2 box.

Really all we know are bits and pieces. Lots of teasers, but the main rules have not been released. Lock and Load starts on the 10th. And the new rules will be released online on the 12th.

other than that read about the game and company. If that doesn't sell you then you probably won't like it. I don't want to sell you something you won't enjoy.

Yeah, we only know pieces of the rules changes so far. It's not really possible to make a fair judgement of what the new edition will be like.

There are a lot if info leaked now, still is impossible to get a full picture, but we do have an idea of the design philosophy leading the changes. A lot of the changes are faction dependent, and serves to invalidate the "auto-includes". For example, the Choir of Menoth lost his +2 to hit, but all jack marshalls gained it, thus diluting the strength of the faction without losing it, and opening space for newer, better Jack chassis for the Protectorate.

Overall, we're noticing a strong nerf to heavy infantry blocks (every HI in the game except for Man-o-War are going down to 5 boxes), a VERY strong nerf to Tough (knockdown removes it natively, and a whole lot of things that didn't ignore it before now ignores it), a medium to strong boost to Warjacks (usually 1 more MAT/RAT, and all Jacks in a battlegroup gains a focus token at the beginning of the turn, coupled with lower cost). Cavalry have been redesigned to be simpler, they can just reposition the model a few inches away after the activation ends. Backstrikes are going to be more common/sought after. Warcasters all gain a slew of Battlegroup points (at least twice as much as we have now).

Faction identities have all been refined. For example, very few models outside of Protectorate of Menoth will have access to spell removal (although those we know who do have access are on par with PoM or sometimes better). No known models currently can use opponent models (like Epic Severius could) outside of the Cephalyx mini-faction.

As for your third question, the old Cryx starter box will still be valid, but it will come with limitations. All new starter boxes are designed to come to a point value of "0", counting the free battlegroup points, yours might be over or (more likely) under. There's also been mention of limiting the Journeyman League to a choice of only 4 Warnouns, which obviously includes the ones included in the new boxes, and might not include the old ones.

Hope this help.

(1) too many to list. Morale is removed, premessuring is added, all jacks auto-generate a focus, jack marshals have been significantly tweaked, warcasters no longer 'overboost' with focus - instead, they can spend a focus to reduce any incoming damage by five.

Within the factions themselves, there are plenty tweaks and rebalances. Some things that were a bit too much in mk2 got tweaked, some got hit hard, and some things got a great boost along the way.

2) yes.

3) pieces will still be valid.

That helps a ton, thanks! So is it worth it to look around and pick up some old armies, or just to buy the new starter set and jump in? I'm thinking the starter sets are the way to go, as they come with a rulebook, "mat", dice, tokens, and models. Now you say this comes to "0" points, what do you mean? As I know the old point systems was like 15-50?

Each of the new BB will be net zero with battlegroup points. So, in the new cryx box, the reaper, slayer, and deathripper will be equal to Agathias WJ points.

Under the second ed rules, Hordes Warlocks did not cost anything came with a certain number of points to spend on Warbeasts. So, if a Warlock came with 7 points to spend, you could take that warlock, a warbeast that cost 4 points and a warbeast that cost 3 points, and your force would cost zero (0) points. From what he said, I assume the new starter boxes will have a selection of Warbeasts or Warjacks that are equal to the Warlock or Warcaster's available points.

After you spend those Warlock/Warcaster points, other things are added as normal to equal 15-50 points (or whatever limit you are using)

That seems to be the case, and now with everyone having more jack/beast points, you'll be able to bring a bit more, even with the point value changing. IE, in the new Khador box, you get two heavy Jacks, which will have a net cost of 0 points, which is better than it was last ed for the Russians

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.
