Anyone else feel like this might be a little too good in most games it's played in? Whatever happens, the Seraphon player (which occasionally means me), gets to decide the flow of the match with this battalion alone. Strike from anywhere, no downsides, delete a key unit or model in the opponent's army despite how tough it seemingly is.

What are ways to fight against something like this? Especially those Unlimited Attacks by the Ripperdactyls when they show up.

For what it's worth, I know alot of tournaments have now changed ripperdactyls to no longer gain extra attacks ontop of the extras.
So they only get a single lot of additional attacks in most tournaments now.

That has balanced them out quite a bit now and round this way, they are no longer deleting huge hordes with ease.

Really? Is this a common theme for tournaments? Do they also do the same thing for 40K and other games.

I'd be pretty PO'd if I went to a tourney to find out the tourney nerfed my army......

These sort of changes are very rarely unannounced ... And I also don't think too many people should be shocked to find that their extremely imbalanced feeling combination of models has been toned down for match play

I also feel like this formation came up in a recent thread, where we talked about how different comp systems deal with it differently, either by upcosting razordactyls and/or the formation itself, or by editing how insane the additional attaks are generated (as Jackal says). Because in game as written I don't think there's much you can do, given how the combo works, except for perhaps controlling how close your units are to each other and/or how concentrated your force is (i.e. how many high-value targets you have - more with less value is better vs this combo, I'd assume).

PPC puts a pretty high point cost on the battalion specifically because of the ripperdactyls, who themselves are priced to accommodate their attack potential.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

And to answer an above poster... even the ITC will severely house-rule a given 40k formation or unit if they feel it wholely breaks the spirit of the game.

If you came to an even with the most broken combo you could find, and it was invalidated... sure, you have a right to be upset, but if you weren't upset, it would mean every other player at the event would have their enjoyment compromised instead.

Even having not played them, at a glance, it was obvious how insanely powerful Ripperdactyls could be, so kudos for both of the "big" comp systems for, in their own way, doing something to keep them from just running away with games.
