So about a week ago I was looking for terrain making ideas for Necromunda. I started by looking at making a huge modular habitat but decided that actually I'd probably better start more modestly. I decided to start with some crates, I thought when looking at necromunda boards all you see are vats of chemicals and walkways going nowhere especially important (not that these don't look awesome!). I wanted to make a little house for the people of necromunda to sleep and undertake thier daily lives in. Shipping containers seemed to fit the bill. But this was before the GW ones were anounced and most of the MDF crates I could find were pretty expensive and didn't really have the look I wanted (or weren't big enough).

Then I found this kitchenware at 3 crates for £13.60 on ebay (pretty good deal). The project is only 1 day old now but I wanted to share how awesome these budget containers look and what great LOS blockers they would make. I used a dremel to cut the plastic which produced a ton of flakes so probably something to do outside and with a respirator on for good measure! I also made sure to put at least 2 holes in each crate so that models could move through them.

The tops of the craters lock in place with friction so you can just pop them off to move models that are inside.

They're awesome. I might have to pick some of those crates up and steal your idea! They really do look awesome!

Amazing work! The finished set looks amazing. Are you gonna put ladders up the side so gangers can climb up?

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thanks, yeah some ladders or chains/ropes for getting up top is planned but first got to paint and flesh out the interiors and paint the external detailing. Might weather the posters a bit too though I'm quite liking how they came out and dont want to mess them up.

To others: If your thinking of getting these crates, the only thing I would say is that the dremmel with cutting disk was absolutely essential. No way was an exacto or box cutter getting through the plastic. Also the doors dont open (although I did cut out 1 door). But I am very happy with the price and scale.

Nicely spoted at the cheaper price, I had seen variable prices for this (some way higher!) but thought I'd got quite a good deal. Today I did all the detailing on the grimest container, 'The Kill Room'. Where unlucky individuals star on the 'who wants to die on air' show. All blood dedicated to Khurn the god of executions (nooo heresy here, look away).
